Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to travel. Additionally, keep in mind that discounted partner fares may not earn miles with US-based carriers.

Chinese airline Hainan is launching nonstop service between Los Angeles and Changsha (CSX), a major city in China’s Hunan province. From Changsha, you can travel nonstop to many destinations in Asia, and if you have an onward ticket to another country, you can take advantage of China’s 72-hour visa waiver policy (though you might be better off getting a 10-year visa, instead).

To celebrate the new 787 Dreamliner route, Hainan is offering fantastic economy and business-class fares. You can fly between LAX and CSX for just $558 round-trip in economy or $1,358 in the business-class cabin, which has lie-flat seats. That’s phenomenal for a round-trip flight to Asia in business. The catch is that you must book by December 31. Officially, you can begin travel between January 21 and March 24, but these fares are available through April as well.

It appears that the business-class fare books into R class, which theoretically earns 200% mileage with Alaska Mileage Plan, but Alaska also lists R as a first-class fare class, so it’s possible that this was posted in error. Hainan also has fantastic fares on its other US routes, such as Chicago to Beijing and Boston to Shanghai, but only in the economy cabin.
