Big news for Airbus! The super-jumbo manufacturer has struggled recently to find buyers for its flagship plane, but according to Nikkei, ANA just shared plans to purchase three A380s in a deal worth nearly $1.25 billion. ANA will reportedly operate its new planes on high-density leisure routes, including flights to Hawaii — according to the report, roughly 1.5 million people travel from Japan to Hawaii each year, with planes currently operating near capacity.

ANA’s A380 will likely focus on packing in extra economy seats.

While we’d love to see ANA’s A380 one-up Etihad’s own plane, the aircraft will most likely be configured with a focus on fitting as many passengers as possible, such as what Emirates has achieved with its 615-seat giant. While that could mean more award seats, particularly in coach, it’s not necessarily going to be something you’ll want to fly out of the way to experience.

Details are still incredibly thin at the moment, but I’m sure we’ll hear more as we approach the proposed launch date in 2018.
