A few weeks ago our family of four hit the skies together for the first time and headed south to Mexico and the St. Regis Punta Mita. We were a bit apprehensive going into the first trip for our two month old, but all of that apprehension and stress melted away quicker than the ice in the first margarita when we saw our insane upgrade and quickly learned how over-the-top the service was at this resort. This trip was part of the Amex SPG Stars program to highlight that the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express no longer charged foreign transaction fees (yay!), and as such our three hotel nights were complimentary. However, any additional money we spent on the trip at the resort was out of our own pockets, and we were free to plan our own activities…or do nothing at all. So, here is some information on the activities and amenities we were able to enjoy during our visit to the St. Regis Punta Mita.
Check out part 1 of our post for info on getting there, our suite, a video review, and more…
St. Regis Punta Mita Kid’s Club:
I think this is the sixth St. Regis property my family has visited, and I have learned through those visits that while the St. Regis is obviously a very luxury brand, they are truly family focused. They even have what they call a “Family Traditions” program throughout the brand that helps make vacations special for families. At this property, much like at others, our daughter was greeted with a backpack with activities and goodies, there was a child’s sized robe, and even some little local toys in the room for both of my girls!
This property specifically also has a Kid’s Club available for children 5-12, which is complimentary. Yes, you read that correctly. There is no additional fee for your little ones to have a great time while you are off having a great time! Usually similar clubs are $40 – $60, so having access for free is pretty spectacular.
In the mornings the coordinators did outdoor activities with the kids including collecting and making this beautiful shell necklace!
In the afternoons the activities moved to the indoor kid’s club that is located near the spa. Our older daughter loved going to the kid’s club and begged to go each day for a visit!
The Pools at the St. Regis Punta Mita:
The St. Regis Punta Mita has two family friendly pools and one adults-only pool. All of them were such a great temperature that even the baby could have gotten in! They also had very smooth bottoms and were just beautiful with zero entry or infinity edges that overlooked the ocean.
You could order food or drinks next to the pools and they even came around with complimentary mango smoothies while we were there.
The Beach at the St. Regis Punta Mita
If the beach is more your style, you are also in luck because there is plenty of it at the St. Regis Punta Mita. The sand was soft, the water nice, and there was even shade if you wanted to enjoy the beach without getting baked.
A portion of the beach at the St. Regis had waves that were large enough for surfing and a portion that was protected and virtually flat. There were shells at the shore line, so you either want water shoes or simply just not be bothered by walking on shells for a bit as we did.
I really loved this beach because it was right off the property, was safe enough for us to swim in, there were no vendors, no trash, and nothing but natural beauty!
Paddle Boarding and Ocean Activities at the St. Regis Punta Mita:
Throughout the week there are various complimentary ocean activities available including stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, and kayak lessons. My five-year-old and I did the complimentary one hour stand up paddle boarding class and we had a blast paddling out with the instructor and one other couple!
There are plenty of other excursions and activities available for a fee, but even the free activities could easily keep you busy for days!
In addition to those ocean activities they also have water aerobics, ceviche class, mojito class, beach fishing, Spanish lessons, and more on the daily calendars!
Food at the St. Regis Punta Mita:
One of my favorite things to do on vacation (and at home) is to eat. I enjoy exploring the world through meals, and when I had to cut dairy, soy, eggs, nuts, and chocolate from my diet because of Baby S’s very sensitive tummy I was worried about how that would play out on vacation. I packed some of my own foods and snacks to eat on the trip and also contacted the resort ahead of time to help identify meals I could eat there.
Those restrictions naturally eliminated many items on the menu, but the team there was very good about working with me to find things I could eat. I don’t think I did perfect avoiding those items (found out halfway through the trip the red sauce has parmesan cheese in it), but I did pretty well, all things considered. What I did eat was very enjoyable, and surprisingly the room service prices weren’t bad at all, given that this was a St. Regis resort. My family had room service dinner each night for around $60 USD, which is half what it can often cost at similar resorts.
Being able to eat in our room at a reasonable rate was such a blessing because the baby gets a bit fussier in the evenings and a restaurant meal wouldn’t have been fun for anyone!
Our rate came with complimentary breakfast in the restaurant, so we enjoyed the buffet there most mornings. It was quite an extensive buffet complete with an omelet station as well as another station with homemade corn tortillas and other goodies. I particularly loved the fresh “juice of the day” you could sample outside the restaurant – it was always delicious!
My favorite meals at the resort though were actually at the Mita Mary right on the beach. The fish, shrimp, and lobster tacos were fantastic and all were served literally fresh off the grill! The tacos ranged in price from 60 – 165 pesos each depending on your meat selection.
I will miss those tacos until we are hopefully able to return at some point! My other favorite treat at the St. Regis Punta Mita was the coconut stations where I enjoyed the freshest coconut water I have ever had. You could have alcohol added, too, if that is what you are after.
The sunsets here deserve their own mention because they were truly epic and not to be missed. Be aware mosquitoes were a bit intense this time of day, but a few bites were worth the sun’s grand finale it provided each day.
I am so glad we visited this resort and I very much hope we return so we can eat, swim, play, and just relax and do nothing at all.
