In partnership with Japan Airlines, American will reward you for nonstop travel to Asia between September 9 and December 15, 2015 — to the tune of double AAdvantage miles. You’ll receive the bonus on both JAL and American flights, provided you’ve purchased a ticket in an eligible fare class.

American and JAL offer flights from the US to several major cities in Asia, including Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The promotion is available to business, first and more expensive economy fares on both airlines, so don’t expect to stock up on AAdvantage miles with a dirt-cheap ticket. Specifically, the double miles offer is valid for published first and business class fares booked in F, A, P, J, R, D or I; economy class fares booked in Y, B or H on American Airlines or US Airways marketed or operated flights; as well as first and business class fares booked in F, A, J, C, D, X or I; economy class fares booked in W, E, Y, B or H on Japan Airlines marketed or operated flights.

With the bonus, a flight from LAX to Tokyo would net you over 10,000 miles each way.

Double miles are calculated at 100% of your base miles earned, and as usual the additional miles don’t count toward elite-qualifying status. Finally, flights marketed by codeshare partners aren’t eligible for the promotion.

Note that you won’t receive double AAdvantage points automatically; registration prior to travel is required using promotion code ASIA4. Allow up to 30 days for the miles to post to your account.
