If you missed out on the IHG Rewards 100% bonus deal for purchased points that expired at the end of June, fear not: IHG Rewards is offering a new 50-100% bonus when you purchase up to 60,000 points through August 31, 2015. When you log in to your account you’ll see a targeted bonus ranging from 50-100%, though multiple TPG staffers who checked out the promo page found they were only eligible for a 50% bonus.
Points can be purchased in increments of 1,000 at the following rates:
- 1,000 – 10,000 points for $13.50 per 1,000 points;
- 11,000 – 25,000 points for $12.50 per 1,000 points;
- 26,000 – 60,000 points for $11.50 per 1,000 points.
If you were to max out this promotion and receive the full 100% bonus, you would be receiving 120,000 points for a cost of $690, which comes to .575 cents per point. If instead you are eligible for the 50% bonus, that’s 90,000 points for $690, which comes to .767 cents per point.
TPG values IHG points at 0.7 cents apiece, so if you’re eligible for the 100% bonus, it’s not a bad deal if you’re looking to top up your account. But note that if you took advantage of the previous deal, you’re out of the running on this one: Members may purchase a maximum of 60,000 points per calendar year and receive a maximum of 60,000 points per calendar year as a gift.
The offer cannot be combined with any other offer, and only purchases made online are eligible for the bonus. Purchased Points are not refundable and are applicable toward all IHG Rewards Club awards. Allow 24-48 hours for points to post and appear in your account.
A great way to get a solid value on this deal is to redeem for IHG PointBreaks (which offers rooms at select properties for just 5,000 points per night) or by redeeming at top IHG properties around the world. Here are two IHG properties that offer a great value:
If your travel plans include London, the InterContinental Park Lane is a terrific spot to redeem points. It has a fantastic Mayfair location with courtyard or city views, with the Hyde Park Corner tube stop just around the corner. Theo Randall serves up some of the best Italian fare in London, while the Wellington Lounge serves traditional afternoon tea daily.
This is a Category 9 property, requiring 50,000 points for a free night. Paid rates in September start at £256.50 ($402) per night, giving you a value of .80 cents per point.
Chain hotels are hard to find in the center of Key West, but the Crowne Plaza-La Concha fits the bill. The boutique hotel, originally built in 1926 and right on Duval Street, has freshly renovated rooms and decor, including tropical Colonial architecture, dark wood furnishings, and plantation shutters.
This is a Category 8 property, requiring 45,000 points for a free night. Rates in September start at $351 per night, giving you a value of .78 cents per point.
