TPG readers Zach & Lindsay asked me at a recent TPG reader meetup:

“Where should we go on our honeymoon? We have a lot of Chase Ultimate Rewards points and American AAdvantage miles (from our hub in Miami), and our hotel loyalty programs are Hyatt and Starwood. We’d like a little bit of culture, beach and overall just an awesome time while spending as little as possible using our points.”

Congratulations Zach and Lindsay! If you’re looking for great beaches and interesting cultural destinations, two places come to mind.

Bali is a romantic and beautiful honeymoon spot. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.

My first suggestion (though a little far away) is Bali, specifically for it’s gorgeous beaches and rich culture. The town of Ubud is a very spiritual place with a lot to do, and it’s a sexy and chic destination. There are several Starwood properties, and I recently stayed at the St. Regis Bali, which was gorgeous. If you want to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for Hyatt stays, The Grand Hyatt only costs 12,000 points per night.

You can redeem AAdvantage miles from Miami and splurge a bit on flying in first class on Cathay Pacific. You can route Miami to L.A., L.A. to Hong Kong, and Hong Kong to Bali. I know it seems long, but Cathay Pacific first class is so luxurious you may not want it to end! The flight will cost you 67,500 AAdvantage miles each way per person, or you can transfer Chase points to United and fly on partner airlines for 130,000 miles in first each way.

If you’d rather stay a bit closer to home, Colombia is a real hot spot right now, and offers a great mix of beach and culture. There’s a new W Bogota which you can get for 12,000 Starpoints per night (with the 5th night free). Then you can hop over to Cartagena for some beach time.

Those are my top recommendations for you, and I know no matter where you go, you’ll have a blast!
