Delta and Virgin Atlantic announced their new summer flying schedule, which calls for up to 39 daily transatlantic flights between the United Stated and the United Kingdom between the two carriers. A few years ago, the two airlines launched a partnership which includes frequent flier benefits, including the ability to redeem SkyMiles for Virgin Atlantic flights, and they’ve continued to built upon that partnership ever since.
Per the announcement, Delta and Virgin Atlantic will launch new service this summer which includes:
- A new daily Delta service between Philadelphia and London Heathrow starting April 26
- A new daily Delta service between New York-JFK and Manchester starting May 21
- A new daily Virgin Atlantic service between London Heathrow and Detroit starting June 1
- Virgin Atlantic is also offering a series of special seasonal services this year from Orlando to Belfast, Northern Ireland (June and July), and Las Vegas to Glasgow, Scotland (September and October).
With the partnership, one of the useful benefits is the ability to redeem Delta SkyMiles for Virgin Atlantic flights. Below is a sampling of some Virgin Atlantic flights I was able to find for using SkyMiles for this summer.
New York- London (LHR) one-way in coach: 30,000 SkyMiles
New York- London (LHR) round-trip in Upper Class: 125,000 SkyMiles plus $298
Las Vegas- Glasgow (GLA) one-way in coach: 30,000 SkyMiles
Even though Delta is constantly devaluing their SkyMiles program, redeeming your SkyMiles for Virgin Atlantic flights is an option if you’re wanting to go to the United Kingdom this summer, especially with all the new flying across the pond.
