American Airlines announced this morning that it would be refreshing the look and feel of its award charts to make them easier to read and navigate. This might induce a little anxiety about devaluation, but fortunately there will be no changes to award pricing.
Here’s a look at the new layout:
In addition to updating award charts, American has also updated the look and feel of its upgrade charts:
Compared to the old award and upgrade charts, this is a great improvement, and will make it easier for AAdvantage members to browse the charts while searching for award space.
I’m glad to see that American is only editing for style, and not pulling award charts from the website as Delta did recently. I’ll be interested to see if United responds; while parroting Delta has been standard operating procedure lately, hopefully United will opt to do nothing. Its interactive award charts are already pretty functional, and I think pulling them would be bad PR, especially given all the flack Delta has received over its own move.
