TPG Content and Community Manager Ryan Gaines recently completed a Hyatt Diamond Challenge; today he walks us through the new benefits recently announced for Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond members.

When it comes to hotel elite status, I think Hyatt’s Gold Passport program is one of the most rewarding, especially for its top-tier Diamond members. The program offers an impressive list of benefits, including a Diamond welcome amenity, room upgrades at check-in, Regency Club or Grand Club lounge access, full daily breakfast (if no lounge), 4 pm late checkout, and 4 suite upgrade certificates each year, which are confirmed at the time of booking.

However, Hyatt Gold Passport is upping the ante even further for Hyatt Diamond members in 2015 with a few new perks, including a Guest of Honor benefit, United Club Passes, and premium WiFi.

Andaz Costa Rica
The Andaz Costa Rica would be a great hotel to redeem points for a friend or family as your “Guest of Honor.”

As a Hyatt Diamond elite, you’ll soon be able to enjoy the following perks:

  • Guest of Honor — Beginning March 1, you can extend your on-property Diamond benefits (such as Regency Club or Grand Club access, free breakfast and late check-out) to family or friends when your transfer a free night stay using Hyatt Gold Passport points. By extending Diamond privileges to friends or family on an award stay, Hyatt is providing the warmest possible welcome and an extraordinary on-property experience.
  • United Club Passes — Beginning March 1, you’ll receive two complimentary United Club one-time passes annually. You’ll get access to more than 45 United Club locations at airports served by United Airlines, with amenities that include complimentary bar service, light snacks, free WiFi, conference room access and more.  This benefit extends Hyatt’s hospitality beyond its hotels, and ensures Diamond members are comfortable and productive throughout their entire travel journey.
  • Premium WiFi — Beginning February 14, both Diamond and Platinum members will receive premium WiFi access (where available) in guestrooms and social spaces, such as lobbies and Hyatt-operated restaurants, at every Hyatt hotel worldwide.
Hyatt Huntington Beach
As a Hyatt Diamond members, you’ll get premium WiFi at properties like the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach hotel.

My Thoughts

In this day and age, when loyalty programs are repeatedly devaluing, it’s a nice change when a program actually adds new benefits, so props to Hyatt for these new perks.

I think the Guest of Honor benefit is the most useful addition, as it allows your friends or family members to take advantage of your Diamond benefits, including free breakfast, when you book an award stay for them using your points. I know people who currently do this by booking award stays from their account and adding guests, but with this new feature you’ll be able to transfer your points to their account directly, and they’ll officially receive the Hyatt Diamond benefits.

I’m not personally a United flyer, but for those who are, the two United Club passes could come in handy, and it’s possible we could see a further partnership develop between Hyatt and United in the future, similar to Crossover Rewards from Delta and Starwood and RewardsPlus from United and Marriott.

These new changes are going into effect shortly after Hyatt modified its Hyatt Diamond Challenge, where now you’ll only receive status and suite upgrades once you’ve successfully completed it.

What are your thoughts on these new Hyatt Diamond benefits?
