La Compagnie is a French startup airline that flies all-business-class flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Newark. It launched last summer with 4-5 weekly flights with its first aircraft, and took delivery of a second back in December and now plan to launch service between Newark and London Luton Airport starting April 24, 2015.
To celebrate, the airline is offering promotional airfares of just $1,007 roundtrip on the new route. You must purchase between today (February 3) and April 24 for travel between April 24-June 30.
The route will be operated 5x weekly (Thursdays and Saturdays are the exception). Though these fares are promotional, it looks like they are available pretty much every day the airline will be flying this route.
- Flight BO 7 departs Newark at 22:20 and arrives in London the next day at 10:30
- Flight BO 6 departs London at 17:45 and arrives at 21:00 the same day
As you can see from the price breakdown, the fare itself is $421 and the taxes/surcharges amount to $586.
By comparison, the cheapest non-stop economy tickets between New York and London (all airports on either side) are $1,132.50 from United, Virgin Atlantic and Delta, while British Airways and American are charging $1,294.50.
So for $125 less, you are getting a business class product across the Pond.
Speaking of that business class product. La Compagnie flies 757-200’s with 74 seats in 19 rows with four across in a 2 x 2 configuration. Seats have 62 inches of pitch and are 26 inches wide. They also have a reading lamp, personal compartments and a power outlet. The airline touts the seats as reclining 180 degrees, but reports and photos suggest that these seats are in fact angled and of a rather outdated model. Still, it’s better than being crammed in coach for the trip.
Travelers are given anti-allergenic pillows, duvets and a Caudalie travel amenity kit. Entertainment comes in the form of handheld Samsung Galaxy Pro tablets, and WiFi is available for free on the flight. Menus are created by chef Christophe Langree.
At Newark, the airline has an “Art & Lounge” space in Terminal B near the check-in counters with snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, red and white wine, and premium beer.
Just as a reminder, La Compagnie is also offering $1,498 roundtrip fares from Newark to Paris Charles De Gaulle for tickets purchased by March 15 for travel through March 31, so if you are headed to Paris for spring, you might want to consider that instead.
While reviews of La Compagnie have been mixed, you can’t beat $1,000 airfares from New York to London in economy let alone business class – albeit a very outdated business class. And if you have reason to fly to London this spring or early summer, this is a great option to have in your back pocket.
