United Airlines is currently running a targeted promotion where select MileagePlus members can earn double miles on their travel for qualifying flights now through January 31, 2015.

United Airlines sent out a targeted promotion to some MileagePlus members for double miles.
United Airlines sent out a targeted promotion to some MileagePlus members for double miles.

With this offer, targeted members can earn up to 50,000 bonus miles. Qualifying fare classes include F, A, J, C, D, Z, P, Y, B, M, E and U. You must register prior to booking to be eligible to earn the double miles, and you must fly on a United or United Express operated flight, meaning codeshare flights will not count.

Only base award miles qualify for earning double, so you won’t get a bonus on any miles earned through elite status or for a premium fare class. The bonus also doesn’t apply to Premier Qualifying Miles, so this won’t help you reach elite status any faster than normal.

I haven’t seen an offer for double miles from United in several months. It’s unfortunate that this bonus is targeted, and it’s not clear what criteria United used to distinguish between MileagePlus members. Check your email to see if you were selected, or just try to register and see what happens. The offer clearly specifies that only original recipients are eligible, but it’s always possible that you were selected and just didn’t receive the invitation.
