Starwood Preferred Guest just launched a new offer, where you can earn 500 points just for booking your next stay through their SPG mobile app on your phone, as long as you pay with an American Express card.

Earn 500 bonus Starpoints per stay when you book through the SPG App.

Promotion Details:

Earn 500 bonus Starpoints per stay, up to 3 stays, when you register for this offer and use the SPG app to book a stay at Starwood hotels and resorts with your American Express Card, December 10, 2014, through March 31, 2015. All stays must be completed by March 31, 2015.

Then, use that same app to unlock your travel options — including your hotel room door at select hotels with SPG Keyless. Plus, manage your account, including adding your American Express Card, browse and book more than 1,200 hotels and resorts, and more. You can view the full list of Terms and Conditions as well.

My Thoughts:

It only takes a few minutes to book through the app, and 500 Starpoints is worth about $11.50 in my current valuations, so it’s worth doing. A regular SPG member would have to spend $250 at Starwood hotels to earn 500 points, a Gold or 50-night Platinum member would have to spend $167, and a 75-night Platinum member would have to spend $125 (not including the bonus you’d get from using the Starwood Amex, which earns you another 2 points per dollar at Starwood properties).

Starwood’s current promotion More For You ends on December 15th, so this new offer is a nice transition, before Starwood announces their next promotion for the first quarter of 2015.
