Back in September, Starwood Preferred Guest launched its More For You promo, where you could earn double or triple points on stays this fall. With the recent refresh of the Starwood website, however, the program added another little bonus to the promo where you can earn 500 points just for updating your stay preferences.

There's another little bonus to SPG's fall promo.
There’s another little bonus to SPG’s fall promo.

Per the original terms of the More For You promotion, you had to register by October 31, but it looks like Starwood has pushed the registration deadline to November 30, 2014, so be sure to register here.

You earn:

  • Double Starpoints on stays of two or more eligible nights
  • Triple Starpoints on eligible stays that include a Friday or Saturday night (Thursday or Friday night in the Middle East)

Just be sure to note the extensive list of non-participating properties, which includes popular options such as the St. Regis and all the W Hotels in New York City, the Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf, W San Francisco, and St. Regis San Francisco, the W Hong Kong, Sheraton on the Park in Sydney, Hotel Bristol in Vienna, and others.

500-Point Bonus

In addition to extending the registration deadline for the More For You promo, it looks like SPG has also added another little bonus to sweeten the deal. The promo page now includes the following text:

All you have to do is be sure to register for the More For You promo and then update your Stay Preferences by December 15, and you should be awarded 500 bonus points within a few weeks of the promotion end date. Even if you already updated your Stay Preferences, you should still be eligible to earn the 500-point bonus as long as you did so after October 15.

In order to update your Stay Preferences, log into your SPG account and click on your name in the upper right corner. That pulls down the following menu; from there, just click on My Profile.

That takes you to the next page where one of the boxes is My Stay Preferences. Click on Edit and then the following page loads.

Change a preference or two, click Save Changes, and that should be that.

It only takes about a minute, and 500 Starpoints is worth about $11.50 in my current valuations, so it’s worth doing. A regular SPG member would have to spend $250 at Starwood hotels to earn 500 points, a Gold or 50-night Platinum member would have to spend $167, and a 75-night Platinum member would have to spend $125 (not including the bonus you’d get from using the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express, which earns you another 2 points per dollar at Starwood properties).

Terms & conditions: Registered members are eligible to receive 500 bonus Starpoints when updating the members spg.com profile online between October 15, 2014 and December 15, 2014. Updates made prior to registration are eligible, but only if the update falls within October 15 to December 15, 2014. The bonus will post to the registered member’s account 2-4 weeks after the end of the promotion period. All members who are registered for the More For You promotion are eligible for the My Stay Preferences bonus regardless of whether they have an eligible booking in the promotion.

In addition to this new offer, Starwood is also currently running the SPG Triple Crave promotion, where SPG members can earn triple Starpoints Mondays through Thursday on purchases of $50 or more at participating Starwood restaurants through December 30, 2014. You can register for this offer through November 30, 2014 as well.

All in all, there are quite a few SPG bonus points available this fall, so be sure to register and plan your stays accordingly to maximize your earnings!
