Cathay Pacific Announces Newark-Hong Kong Service: As of March 1, 2014, Cathay Pacific will fly from Hong Kong to Newark, making it the Hong Kong based airline’s fifth US destination (and the second in the New York area). The flights will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with services in economy, premium economy and business available.
- Hong Kong-bound flights will depart at Newark at 1:15 a.m. and arrive at 6 a.m. the next day local time.
- Newark-bound flight will depart Hong Kong at 6:20 p.m. and arrive at 9 p.m. local time.
Cathay Pacific’s current North American destinations are Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, New York JFK, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto.

Alaska Airlines 40% Bonus On Miles Purchases, Get Up To 16,000 Bonus Miles: Alaska Airlines is currently offering up to a 40% bonus on the purchase of Mileage Plan miles now through September 30, 2013. Get up to 16,000 bonus miles through the tiered bonus system as follows:
- Buy 1,000 – 19,000 miles: get a 20% Bonus
- Buy 20,000 – 29,000 miles: get a 30% Bonus
- Buy 30,000 – 40,000 miles: get a 40% Bonus
Miles cost $27.50 per 1,000 miles, plus a 7.5% tax recovery fee. There is a cap of 40,000 miles per transaction but you can buy as many miles as you want if using the promotion multiple times. The total cost to buy 40,000 + 16,000 is $1.182.50 including tax, which comes out as 2.1 cents per mile. Mileage Plan miles are extremely valuable because you can use them on partners such as Cathay Pacific and Emirates. Virgin Atlantic Increases The Number of Miles You Can Buy Or Gift Each Year From 30,000 to 100,000: Virgin Atlantic announced this week that you can now buy or gift up to 100,000 Flying Club miles per calendar year, up from the previous level of 30,000. You can buy in increments of 1,000 miles at a total cost of $52 plus a $25 transaction fee and they will be ready to be used straight away. You can transfer up to 120,000 miles (plus $13.50 fee per 1,000 miles) in any calendar year in increments of 1,000, but the maximum that any one member can receive as a transfer is 30,000 miles (plus $13.50 fee per 1,000 miles) per calendar year. In addition, if you want to use the Miles Booster to double or triple your flight miles, you will no longer have to pay a fee of $25. The Miles Booster lets you accelerate the earning of miles on any of our flights, getting you to rewards that much faster. Miles Booster allows you to buy extra miles – based on how many miles you’re flying. You can also retroactively boost for flights you’ve flown over the last 6 months.
US Airways Win A Dream Contest – Chance to Win 250,000 Miles: Now through September 27, 2013, when you enter US Airways “Win A Dream” contest and shop through the Dividend Miles Storefront, you will be entered to win 250,000 miles and $1,500 in gift cards. You receive one entry for registering, and then each day, you can get an additional entry for a shopping transaction through the Dividend Miles Storefront. You can also get 10 entries at once by signing up for email communications from the airline’s shopping portal. The Grand Prize is valued at $6,500 and the winner is responsible for taxes.
