Saturday Recap: Bonus Avios, American, Delta and United Miles Plus Cheap Ireland Flights
Here's a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:
100,000+ Bonus Iberia Avios For Premium Tickets to Europe: Much like recent American and British Airways promos, Iberia just announced new bonuses for traveling on premium fares between North America and Europe. You must register by December 31, 2012, and fly between now and January 31, 2013. Here’s how the bonus breaks down:
-2 flights: 15,000 bonus Avios
-4 flights: 50,000 bonus Avios
-6 flights: 100,000 bonus Avios
-Every 2 flights thereafter: 50,000 Avios.
Though it takes more flights to get to the 50,000 threshold, once you start flying back and forth, those bonuses really add up, and much faster than the American promo. The offer is valid on direct flights operated and marketed by Iberia, British Airways, and American Airlines between the United States or Canada and Europe. The cabins and booking classes that are valid for Iberia are: Business Class (J,C,D,R,I), and Economy Class (Y, B, H); for British Airways: First Class (F, A,), Club World (J, C, D, R, I), World Traveler Plus (W, E,T) and Economy Class (Y,B,H); for American Airlines: First Class (F, A), Business Class (J, D, R, I) and Economy Class (Y). The bonus Avios will be accumulated and noted on your February 2013 account statement once the promotional period has finished. This promotion is not transferable and exclusive to Iberia Plus members in the United States and Canada. The promotion cannot be combined with any other offers valid during this period.
Winter Deals to Ireland on Aer Lingus: Aer Lingus can be a great way to get to Europe whether you’re looking for cheap fares transiting through Dublin, or a way to redeem your British Airways Avios without incurring huge fees and taxes. The airline is currently offering a sale on fares from the US until October 31 good for travel in January and Februar. Sample fares from New York JFK start at $599, $649 from Boston, and $699 from Chicago. There are a couple blackout dates, and your stay must include a Saturday night, but other than that, it’s a pretty straightforward sale. Check out the Aer Lingus promo page for more details.
Up to 10,000 Bonus Purchased American Miles: Now through October 31 when you purchase American Airlines miles, you can earn a bonus. The breakdown is as follows:
-6,000-10,000 miles: 1,500 bonus
-11,000-15,000 miles: 2,750 bonus
-15,000-20,000 miles: 4,000 bonus
-21,000-25,000 miles: 5,250 bonus
-26,000-30,000 miles: 6,500 bonus
-31,000-35,000 miles: 7,750 bonus
-36,000-40,000 miles: 10,000 bonus
While these bonuses aren’t out of this world, they do get up to about 28%, but you’re still paying nearly 3 cents per mile, so I’d stay away unless you were looking to top up for a particular, imminent award.
30,000 Bonus Points With Delta SkyBonus: When you enroll for Delta’s SkyBonus points program for businesses before December 31, 2012, and an employee flies within 60 days of enrollment, you can earn 30,000 bonus points. Use the promo code BTN2012 when you register to get the bonus. Though different from frequent flyer programs, airline business programs can be a great way to rack up additional points, and thus benefits and perks. With Delta SkyBonus, 30,000 points is enough for a one-day SkyClub pass, while you need 85,000 for a roundtrip award ticket in economy class in the continental US. Still, the usual sign-up bonus is around 25,000 (when it’s available), so this is a slight improvement. Hat tip: Delta Points.

1,000 Wyndham Rewards Points Per Stay at Days Inn: Now through December 31, 2012, Wyndham Rewards members can earn 1,000 bonus points per stay at Days Inns. To qualify for the 1,000 bonus points offer you have to be a member of Wyndham Rewards and book the Best Available Rate, and stay at a participating Days Inn hotel (you can find a list of the participating on the promo pate). Best Available Rate means the best non-qualified, publicly available rate on the Internet for the hotel, date and accommodations requested. This does not include group rates, packaged rates, negotiated rates or rates that require membership in a particular group. 1,000 Wyndham Rewards points (regardless of member's earning preference) will be awarded per stay during the promotion period. You might not plan to use your points to stay at Wyndham properties in the future, but remember, you can transfer Wyndham points to airline miles at a 2.5:1 ratio with airline partners including American, Delta, and United.
