This morning I posted about an American Express/Membership Rewards bonus of 5,000 Amex points for every $100 in Delta spend. The online registration form did not allow me to register, so I figured I wasn't targeted. Most of you met the same fate.

However, I was tipped off by my friend The Frugal Travel Guy, that by calling, they might be able to manually register your account, so I figured "it couldn't hurt to ask!" (my favorite line with Amex!)

Phone call 1
Friendly rep put me on hold said I was indeed eligible and gave me a 9 digit RSVP code and told me to do it online. She confirmed that this bonus was for each $100+ Delta purchase with no maximum and it started July 15. Wow - awesome. Stupidly, I hung up and went to use my RSVP code and I noticed that the online site requires a 14 digit RSVP code and mine did not work.

Phone call 2
Friendly rep puts me on hold for a solid 5 minutes. Comes back and confirms that there is no way to register for this bonus and it is open to everyone. She states that the 5,000 Amex points will post automatically 6-8 weeks after the qualifying spend. I just spent ~$300 on Delta flights yesterday and she confirmed I would get the 5,000 points and she notated my account just to make sure. I asked her about earning the bonus multiple times and she seemed to think it was a one time bonus, but admitted the T&C were unclear.

So, if you have a Membership Rewards enrolled card (Platinum, Premier Rewards, Gold, Green, Corporate), it can't hurt to give a call to the number on the back of your card and ask them if you are eligible for Bonus ID 6760. If so, make sure they notate your account, because I have a feeling these points will not post automatically (though Amex is usually good about that).

Please share your experience in the comments section. Happy Thursday!

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
