Maximize your purchase

Be sure to use a card that earns additional points on airfare purchases to pay taxes and fees on your award ticket.

Some of our favorite cards include:

Earning Mileage Plan miles

One of the best ways to earn Alaska Airlines miles is with the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. Right now, new cardholders can earn 50,000 bonus miles plus buy one ticket, get one for just the taxes and fees ($0 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $3,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days from account opening.

Or, with the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card, new cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus miles and Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ ($99 fare, plus taxes and fees from $23) after making $4,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of opening an account.

Bilt Rewards added Alaska Airlines as a transfer partner in March of last year, which allows members to transfer Bilt Points to Mileage Plan at a 1:1 rate.

You can also transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Mileage Plan via the HawaiianMiles program; however, this will end June 30.

Bottom line

Alaska's latest Global Getaways promotion has discounted redemptions to interesting destinations across North America, Europe, Asia and South America.

While the travel window and the restriction that travel must commence in the U.S. are limiting, there are still good deals to be had. Remember to book by June 30 to take advantage of this offer.
