Good news for passengers who want to stay connected while they’re flying: International Airlines Group — which includes Aer Lingus, British Airways and Iberia among other carriers — will introduce Wi-Fi on short-haul flights next summer.

While more and more airlines are connecting passengers on long-haul flights (the Air France-KLM Group announced it will bring Wi-Fi to part of the fleet by the end of 2017), short-haul intra-Europe flights haven’t been shown much love. And while BA recently announced that it will begin charging for food on short-haul flights, at least you’ll be able to get online — probably at a cost.

Aircraft operated by British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus will be outfitted with Inmarsat Wi-Fi. According to IAG, it will provide a broadband network and is fast enough to allow passengers to use multiple devices at once and to stream video.

BA will get the bulk of the upgrades, with 132 planes in its fleet gaining connectivity, followed by Vueling (125), Iberia (45), and Aer Lingus (39). You can expect to get connected starting on BA flights next summer, with the rest of the group coming online in late 2017. And by 2019, IAG expects 90 percent of all of the airlines’ fleets to be equipped with Wi-Fi.
