Shopping portals are a fantastic way to earn some bonus miles with your favorite airline when making purchases online. Every so often, carriers will offer increased earning rates at select retailers, giving you the chance to earn even more miles toward your next trip.

Over the course of the next nine days, three airlines in particular — Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines — are offering elevated earnings at select retailers. Read on for the breakdown of increased earnings for each portal.

Alaska

Mileage Earning per Dollar Applicable Dates
Kohl’s 6 11/11
Lancome 10 11/11
Finish Line 10  11/11
Lord & Taylor 12 11/14
Neiman Marcus 10  11/15
Backcountry 15  11/16
Groupon 10 11/17
JCPenney 15 11/20

As you can see, you’ll only have today to take advantage of these increased earnings. Say you want to buy something at Neiman Marcus, where the normal earning rate is 5 miles per dollar. If the item you wanted to buy cost $80, you’d normally earn 400 miles — worth $7.20 based on TPG’s most recent valuations. If you make that purchase on November 15, you’ll earn 800 miles, worth $14.40.

American

JCPenney 10 11/20
American Girl Doll 12 11/20
New Balance 12 11/20

Again, all of these retailers are offering single-day increases with American. Say you were thinking about buying something at New Balance that would cost you $90. If you were to buy it at the normal rate of 4 miles per dollar, you’d earn 360 miles — worth $5.40 based on TPG’s valuations. However, if you were to make that same purchase on November 20, you’d earn 1,080 miles — worth $16.20.

United

Kohl’s 8 11/15-11/16
Lord & Taylor 20 11/17
Saks.com 15 11/18

With some of these retailers, you’ll have multiple chances to earn bonus miles — specifically with Backcountry and Kohl’s. Let’s say you were planning to make a $150 purchase at Lord & Taylor. If you were to do so with the normal earning rate of 3 miles per dollar, you’d earn 450 miles, worth $6.75. However, if you were to make that same purchase on November 17 with the elevated offer, you’d earn 3,000 miles — worth $45.

Bottom Line

These increased earning rates provide a great opportunity for you to bank some extra miles. With the holidays right around the corner, you could get a head start on your shopping and take advantage of these offers while at the same time earning rewards toward your next trip.
