Today, TPG Assistant Editor Matt Zuzolo shares news of exciting new airline routes, including some that have just launched or are slated to begin in the future. Read on to see several new routes to look out for this month through the middle of next year.
NEW ROUTES LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER 2015
Orlando (MCO) — Dubai (DXB) on Emirates (launched September 1, 2015)
Details: Emirates launched a new service between Orlando and Dubai at the beginning of the month. The airline will be flying a Boeing 777-200LR with eight first-class suites, 42 business flat-bed seats and 216 economy seats on the aircraft.

Los Angeles (LAX) — Baltimore (BWI) on Alaska Airlines (launched September 9, 2015)
Details: Alaska Airlines announced earlier this year that it would be expanding daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Baltimore. Flights began September 9 on the carrier’s Boeing 737. This is a two-cabin aircraft with 16 recliner seats in first class and 141 standard seats in economy. Note that exact schedule times and aircraft seem to vary between travel dates.

Newark (EWR) — Copenhagen (CPH) on SAS (October 2015)
Details: In late October, SAS will be launching an all-business service between Newark and Copenhagen on a Boeing 737 operated by PrivatAir. This aircraft will add 44 business-class seats between the two cities in each direction every day but Tuesday. Then, in 2016, it will be reconfigured with 20 business-class seats and 66 economy seats.

NEW ROUTES ANNOUNCED IN SEPTEMBER 2015
Hong Kong (HKG) – Madrid (MAD) on Cathay Pacific (launching June 2, 2016)
Details: Cathay Pacific will be expanding its presence in Europe next year with a new nonstop flight between Hong Kong and Madrid — the only nonstop flight between these two cities. Slated to run four times per week, this flight will be operated using the carrier’s Boeing 777-300ER, equipped with 40 business flat-bed seats, 32 premium economy seats and 268 economy seats.

Salt Lake City (SLC) – London-Heathrow (LHR) on Delta (launching May 1, 2016)
Details: Starting May 1, 2016, Delta will launch the first nonstop route between Salt Lake City and London, using its Boeing 767-300ER. This flight clocks in at approximately 10 hours, while the return is just shy of 11. Passengers in Delta One will have flat-bed seats, and all passengers will have access to in-flight Wi-Fi and entertainment systems.

New York City (JFK) – Edinburgh (EDI) on Delta (launching May 26, 2016)
Details: Delta will launch this new daily route on its Boeing 767-300ER. The aircraft will be equipped with Delta One flat-bed seats for premium passengers and will include in-flight Wi-Fi and entertainments systems for all passengers. Note that flight details, such as aircraft and exact schedule, seem to vary between travel dates.

Raleigh-Durham (RDU) — Paris (CDG) on Delta (launching May 12, 2016)
Details: Delta will launch the first nonstop route between Raleigh-Durham and Paris. This daily flight will operate in conjunction with the airline’s European joint venture partners Air France, KLM and Alitalia using an 164-seat, Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

New York-LaGuardia (LGA) to three new cities on American Airlines (starting January 5, 2016)
Details: American Airlines will launch three new flights to Cincinnati (CVG), Indianapolis (IND) and Minneapolis (MSP), with the latter flight to MSP being a service resumption. These flights will be operated by Republic Airline as American Eagle on the Embraer E170 aircraft, and flight times for each route vary between days and cities.
New York—JFK – Helsinki (HEL) on Finnair’s A350 (launching in late 2015)
Details: In early October 2015, Finnair’s new A350 will be delivered, and in late November, the carrier will begin service on this aircraft between Helsinki and Shanghai (PVG). Following its launch on flights to Shanghai, Finnair will fly the plane on a nonstop route between New York-JFK and Helsinki, making this the first A350 flight in the United States.
San Francisco (SFO) – Xi’an, China (XIY) on United (proposed launching in May 2016)
Details: United has announced its proposal of a seasonal route between San Francisco and the central Chinese city of Xi’an, capital of China’s Shaanxi province and home to the famed Terracotta Warriors. If approved by the Department of Transportation, this route would be operated on United’s 787 Dreamliner three times per week and would be the first trans-Pacific service to Xi’an operated by any airline.
New Norwegian Air service between the US and Europe (starting in 2016 and 2017)
Details: Norwegian will be launching two new flights to the US over the next couple of years. Starting in May 2016, the airline will be operating 4-5 flights per week between Boston (BOS) and Cork, Ireland (ORK). In 2017, Norwegian will also add service between New York and ORK.
