Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to travel.

In August, there were some great opportunities to fly to Central America on the cheap, including United to Costa Rica for $193, as well as some even cheaper fares to Belize on Delta. If you didn’t take advantage of either of those deals, you have another chance to save now, as there are plenty of low fares available on American and Delta, for travel dates through the fall, winter and spring.

The cheapest flight we found will get you from San Francisco (SFO) to San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) for $273. There are also flights between Chicago (ORD) and Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) for $306; and Newark (EWR) and San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) for $307 — and these are just a few of the origins and destinations available.
