Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here – Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card

Last month we wrote about an increased sign-up bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase, which is currently offering 80,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 within the first three months. The normal bonus is just 50,000 points, and while there are frequently offers for 70,000 points, we rarely see a bonus this high, so it’s a nice way to boost your Marriott account balance. However, this offer is set to expire next Monday, August 31st, so this is a reminder to apply while the increased bonus is still in play!

Here are the full details on the card:

  • Limited Time! Earn 80,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening as long as you have not received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the past 24 months
  • Enjoy 1 Free Night Stay at a Category 1-5 location every year after your account anniversary date!
  • For every $1 spent, earn 5 points at 3,800 Marriott locations, 2 points on airline ticket purchases directly with airlines, at car rental agencies & restaurants and 1 point everywhere else
  • The fastest way to earn Marriott Rewards points towards free nights
  • No limit to how many points you can earn
  • Pay no foreign transaction fees and enjoy wider acceptance when you travel with your embedded chip card and you make purchases at chip-enabled card readers
  • All for an $85 Annual Fee
Some cards allow you to spend your way to top tier status, giving you valuable benefits at properties like the Kaua'i Marriott Resort
Marriott has plenty of luxurious properties for award redemptions, such as the Kaua’i Marriott Resort.

The sign-up bonus is worth $560 based on TPG’s most recent valuations, and you can put the points toward a wide variety of redemptions. 80,000 points is enough for two nights at any Category 8 property worldwide, and two such hotels (the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa and the J.W. Marriott Venice Resort & Spa) made my list of 9 awesome Marriott award redemptions earlier this year. You could also put them to valuable use at lower-tier locations, so be sure to check out my list of 6 great low-level Marriott redemptions.

Another unique way to use your Marriott points is through the program’s Hotel + Air packages, which allow you to redeem points for a seven-night hotel stay plus a haul of airline miles. TPG utilized this option to earn a Southwest Companion Pass last year and get a free stay at the JW Marriott Cannes. While an 80,000-point sign-up bonus isn’t nearly enough by itself, there are many other ways to earn Marriott points (including transfers from Chase Ultimate Rewards).

Aside from the sign-up bonus, the card provides some other valuable perks. You’ll enjoy automatic Silver status courtesy of the 15 elite night credits awarded each year, and can actually spend your way to higher levels ($3,000 = 1 credit). I listed Silver status at $60 in my Marriott elite status valuation post, and have actually enjoyed some stellar treatment as a Marriott Silver elite in the past. The free anniversary night at a Category 1-5 property is also a nice benefit, as it essentially equals up to 25,000 bonus points every year just for holding the card and paying the annual fee.

Bottom Line

This enhanced sign-up bonus allowed the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card to crack into TPG’s list of top 10 credit card offers this month, as it represents a great chance to boost your Marriott Rewards balance. It also represents a significant bump from the usual sign-up bonus of 50,000 points, but it’s only available until next Monday, August 31st. If you’ve been waiting to apply, be sure to pull the trigger before it’s too late!
