Should You Buy?

If you max out the promo by purchasing 55,000 points, you’ll receive a total of 77,000 points for $1,320. Taking into account the 40% bonus, you’d be paying 1.71 cents per point with this offer. TPG’s latest monthly valuations list Hyatt points at 1.8 cents apiece, so with this promotion you’ll actually be paying less than what you could reasonably consider face value. That means you could buy points now even without immediate plans to use them, as you’re likely to get better value whenever you do redeem. For some examples, consider this recent list of 10 Hyatt Properties that Make for Awesome Award Redemptions, some of which offer well over 3 cents per point. Naturally, if you do have an upcoming Hyatt stay in mind, run the numbers to see if buying points can save you money.

As a reminder, Hyatt is also running a 20% points refund on award stays through July, which can be stacked with this 40% bonus promotion, giving you an even better return if you have a Hyatt visit planned in the next few weeks. By combining both offers, you’d be paying roughly 1.36 cents apiece for points that you use before the end of July, which is a great deal. However, note that registration is no longer open for the 20% refund promotion, so only members who have already registered will be able to take advantage of this even lower price.

At what price do you think buying Hyatt Gold Passport points makes sense?
