You can now connect an eligible American Express Card to the new UP4 by Jawbone and tap to pay anywhere American Express contactless payments are accepted in the US. Amex is emailing customers about the new partnership this week — according to the email, most personal and business cards support contactless payments, including the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card, which currently includes a 25,000-point bonus offer.

As you may or may not know, Jawbone’s fitness tracker includes apps and services that help users with their health and well-being. While that may seem like a strange gateway to contactless payments for other goods and services, Amex has decided otherwise.

Many Jawbone users are always wearing their wristbands, which means they’re also carrying an Amex card, everywhere they go — what better way to pay than tapping your wrist while your wallet’s back at home? With this partnership, you can use your UP4 band for easy payments on the go wherever eligible American Express contactless payments are accepted.

Wearing one of these? Then shop away!

Setup is fairly simple. Just open the Jawbone UP app and add your eligible Amex card (US consumer or small business credit or charge cards are supported). Enter your Amex user ID and password to connect your Amex card, and then activate UP for payments. Once you’re connected, all you have to do is tap the symbol on the card machine with the bottom strap of your UP4, and boom, you’ve paid!

While this is a relatively niche payment option, it’s simply one more way that credit card issuers are trying to make it as easy as possible for card holders to pay for things. We’re living in future times, people!

And Amex isn’t the only one who’s riding the contactless payment wave. It’s joining the ranks of Apple Pay, Android Pay and Google Wallet, which have been at the forefront of finding new and innovative ways to have users use what’s already in-hand to pay for things. The difference is with Jawbone, you don’t even have to take out your phone.

If you’re using Jawbone, let us know in the comments if you’re keen to sign up for this partnership, and if so, how it’s worked for you in the “wild.” If you don’t yet have a Jawbone device, you can get free two-day shipping with promo code AMEX2DAY.
