JetBlue has announced that it will add weekly service to New York JFK to Havana’s José Martí International Airport (HAV), making it the first major carrier to feature direct flights to Cuba since travel restrictions were eased to the island country earlier this year. JetBlue will begin direct flights from JFK to HAV every Friday starting July 3, 2015, and passengers will have to book with authorized travel agency Cuba Travel Services.

JetBlue has partnered with Cuba Travel Services to offer weekly flights to/from JFK-HAV

Cuba Travel Services is licensed by the U.S. government to run charter flights from the US to Cuba, and in April, they partnered with CheapAir to offer commercial passengers service from the US to several cities in Cuba via charters on Sun Country and American Airlines. (The Points Guy recently used Cuba Travel Services to book his own Sun Country charter flights to Cuba.) This new partnership with JetBlue heralds a new shift towards non-charter flights to Cuba, opening the door for other carriers to hop onboard.

I'll take the luxury of flying direct any day

Miami – Santiago
Tampa – Havana
New York – Havana

American Airlines:

It saves money and time to fly direct to Cuba—and then you're in Cuba.

If you’d like more information on booking the new JetBlue flights or existing charter flights, be sure to see How to Book a Flight to Cuba. And keep in mind that a recent study by Hopper, the app that analyzes flight data to predict your best price, estimates that the addition of direct flights to Cuba from the US will save American travelers about 50% of the previous cost by eliminating the need to first fly to a different country.

So as they say in Cuba, “¡Hurra!”
