Hyatt recently announced an offer promoting 20% points refunds on award stays through July 31, 2015. Current Hyatt credit cardholders have from now until March 31, 2015 to register for the promotion.

This promo is targeted to those who have the Hyatt Credit Card and received the offer directly from Hyatt. However, the good news for them is that the 20% refund is good not only on regular award stays, but also for Points + Cash awards, suite upgrades, and dining and spa redemptions.

Offer Details:

  • Register by March 31, 2015 with your Hyatt Gold Passport number.
  • Book a stay with points and complete your stay before July 31, 2015.
  • Get 20% of your points back. Points will be redeposited directly into your account 4-6 weeks after your stay.

Putting the Promo to Good Use

Whether you’re looking to plan a few weekend getaways or a luxurious week-long retreat to a tropical destination, this promotion offers some great value. Here are a few options for how to maximize it.

The Maldives Park Hyatt offers travelers the ultimate level of service in an ultra luxurious setting
The Maldives Park Hyatt is an incredible property in the remote island nation of The Maldives.

Option One: The Category 7 Hotel Stay

Hyatt currently has eight properties in the highest tier of its award chart, including the Park Hyatt New York and the luxurious Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa. For 24,000 points per night, you can stay in the hotel chain’s best properties around the world; most of which command steep nightly rates. Considering a night at the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa will set you back roughly $1270 plus fees, 24,000 points is a pretty awesome bargain!

Option Two: Multiple Category 1 Weekend Trips

Another huge benefit to this promotion is that it’s valid for a large portion of the peak summer travel season. Category 1 hotels only require 4,000 points per night with this promotion, making them even easier to attain. At such a low cost, you could book multiple weekend trips throughout the summer at a very low nightly rate. You’ll find Category 1 properties in many major US cities such as Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta, as well as many other smaller metropolitan areas.

Option Three: New Hyatt Properties

For true Hyatt connoisseurs, this promotion is a good way to try out a newly opened property at a discount. For example, The Grand Hyatt Baha Marr is set to open later this year in The Bahamas, and you could book awards at 21,600 points per night with the 20% points refund. That’s not great value (since the average nightly rate is $315) but it will make for a memorable stay.

How to Boost Your Hyatt Gold Passport Balance

Keep in mind that Hyatt is a Chase transfer partner, so if you need points for a redemption, you can use Ultimate Rewards. If you don’t already have the Hyatt Card, you can still apply and qualify for the promotion. In addition to the sign-up bonus of two free nights after spending $1,000 in the first three months, benefits include no foreign transaction fees, Platinum Elite status, one free night annually at a category 1-4 property, 3 points for every $1 spent at all Hyatt properties, and more.
