Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here – Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card

On the heels of a possible Southwest Rapid Rewards devaluation coming April 17, Southwest Airlines just launched a targeted offer for Atlanta residents who want to easily earn a Southwest Companion Pass. Now through May 17, if you fly three round-trips from Atlanta, you’ll earn a companion pass through December 31, 2015.

Offer Details:

Heartlanta, we want to do something really special for you: let you fly with a friend free of carrier charges for the entire rest of the year.

Just register for this promotion and then buy and fly three round-trips from Atlanta before May 17, and the Companion Pass will be all yours (and your friend’s) for the taking.

Taking advantage of this promotion is easy:

  • Register between February 13, 2015 and May 17, 2015.
  • Book and complete three round-trip flights originating from and returning to Atlanta between February 13, 2015 and May 17, 2015.
  • Earn a Companion Pass through December 31, 2015.

That’s it, fly three and a friend flies free of carrier charges the rest of the year.

Another Way To Earn a Companion Pass

If you’re not eligible for this promotion, you can still easily earn a Southwest Companion Pass with the sign-up bonuses from the Southwest co-branded credit cards, which count toward the 110,000 points needed for a Companion Pass.

Chase is currently offering increased sign-up bonuses of 50,000 Rapid Rewards points for the Southwest Premier and Plus Visas—both the personal and business versions of the Premier card, and the personal version of the Plus card. To get the full bonus on any of these cards, you must spend $2,000 within 3 months of account opening.

If you were to apply for two of these cards now, and then earn the Companion Pass with help from the 100,000 points earned through the sign-up bonuses, your Companion Pass would be valid until the end of 2016!

The Southwest Companion Pass is extremely valuable.
The Southwest Companion Pass is an extremely valuable perk.

My Thoughts

According to the terms and conditions of this offer, only Rapid Rewards Members with a valid Atlanta area address in their Rapid Rewards accounts are eligible for this promotion. If you’re a new member, you must enroll in Rapid Rewards at Southwest.com/Atlanta to be eligible for the promotion and have a valid Atlanta area address.

With the AirTran/Southwest merger complete, Southwest wants to make sure that former AirTran flyers don’t head over to Delta, so they’re doing all they can to win over the Atlanta market. This is a great deal, so if you’re eligible, you should definitely register!
