One of the best travel credit card offers currently on the market is the US Airways Premier World Mastercard’s limited-time sign-up bonus offer of 50,000 miles with first purchase or balance transfer within 90 days and payment of the $89 annual fee. The normal sign-up bonus is between 35,000-40,000 miles. Now the issuer, Barclaycard, has sweetened the deal for current cardholders of the US Airways Mastercard by offering them a referral bonuses of 5,000 or 10,000 miles per referral and successful application (offers seem to vary) up to a total potential bonus of 50,000 miles now through January 18, 2015.

Send your friends referrals to earn up to 50,000 bonus miles.
Send your friends referrals to earn up to 50,000 bonus miles.

If you received this offer in an email, you just need to click on the “Start Sharing” button then send referral emails to your friends. When they apply and are approved, you will get your bonus miles.

If you would like to use my referral link, you can email me at info@thepointsguy.com. TPG Special Contributor Eric Rosen also has the card and can refer you if you email him at eric@thepointsguy.com. Email us with your first and last name and we will send you referral links for the offer.

We want to spread the love, though, especially since it takes just 5-10 successful referrals (depending on the offer you were sent) to hit the maximum bonus. So if you were emailed this referral offer, feel free to share your own email addresses at your own risk in the comments below so that other readers can apply through your referral links.

Card Details:

As a reminder, here are the rest of the card details:

  • Limited Time Offer: Earn 50,000 bonus miles after your first purchase and payment of the $89 annual fee*
  • First checked bag free on eligible bags for you and up to four companions on domestic US Airways operated flights
  • One companion certificate good for up to 2 guests to travel with you on a US Airways operated flight at $99 each, plus taxes and fees
  • Priority boarding Zone 2 on US Airways operated flights
  • Redeem miles for award travel on US Airways and American Airlines booked through usairways.com or US Airways Reservations
  • Earn miles on every purchase with 2 miles for every $1 you spend on US Airways and American Airlines purchases and 1 mile for every $1 on purchases everywhere else
  • New! Receive a 25% savings on eligible US Airways and American Airlines in-flight purchases

At my current valuation of 1.9 cents a piece, 50,000 miles is worth $950. Subtract the annual fee and you’re still looking at $861 in value without taking into consideration any of the other benefits. 50,000 miles is also enough for a roundtrip business class award within the US, including on American’s A321T transcontinental service, and is enough for at least one way of a roundtrip business class award to South America or Europe, and almost enough for one way of a roundtrip business class award to South Africa (110,000 miles roundtrip).

Why Get This Card Now?

As part of the US Airways merger with American Airlines, this card will transition to an American Airlines MasterCard in 2015 and its benefits will change. In fact, Barclaycard has already introduced a targeted, higher-end version of its new American Airlines co-branded credit card to select US Airways cardholders.

New benefits will include:

  • 10% discount on award redemptions
  • Annual $100 flight discount after $30,000 in spending on eligible purchases
  • One-way and upgrade redemptions

So if you’ve been waiting, I would suggest getting the US Airways card to maximize the value of its various benefits while you still can, including the companion ticket and 5,000-mile rebate before the end of the year. It is probably worthwhile for the sign-up bonus alone. For more info on this card, read my most recent review here.
