In an expansion of the code-sharing partnership started almost one year ago, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic will introduce non-stop service from London Heathrow (LHR) to Philadelphia (PHL). Starting on April 8, 2015, this daily service will be Delta’s eighth destination to the U.S. from Heathrow.

Delta and American Airlines are going head to head on the Philadelphia to London route.

The news of this Delta service to PHL (which has long been a US Airways hub) comes on the same day that rival American Airlines announces the addition of a second daily round-trip LHR-PHL flight beginning on March 29, 2015. These new LHR-PHL routes are both wise and strategic additions, as the bulk of Philadelphia’s international visitors have historically come from the U.K.

Delta’s London-Philadelphia service will fly from Heathrow Terminal 4, employing a 164-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft that features 16 BusinessElite seats, Economy Comfort and Economy seating. BusinessElite passengers will have angle-flat bed seats with 160-degree recline and a range of dining options, and all passengers will have access to on-demand in-flight entertainment.

Delta’s daily LHR-PHL flights will operate as follows:

Flight DL195
Departs Heathrow at 12:30 pm
Arrives Philadelphia at 4 pm

Flight DL194
Departs Philadelphia at 7:04 pm
Arrives Heathrow at 7:30 am (+1 day)

Delta's new LHR-PHL route will be flown on a three-class, 164-seat 757-200

In October, Delta took over the operation of one of Virgin Atlantic’s two daily flights from London to Los Angeles (LAX) on the same day Virgin Atlantic started operating one of Delta’s three flights between its hub in Atlanta (ATL) and LHR. The airlines also started non-stop service from Heathrow to Seattle (SEA) in March of this year. By next summer, the Delta-Virgin Atlantic partnership will offer 39 daily flights to 16 destinations across North America from the U.K.

It’s your move, American Airlines.
