Im going back and forth on applying of the United card. No immediate plans to travel using them but could in future plus Chase transfer partner is extremely nice. Easy spend requirement and 55k to sign up is quite nice. Not sure to apply for this or build up chase and arrival points. So many choices :-)

do united pts expire if you close the card?

  • Redpanda

Chase could yank the points if you close the card within 6 months of opening, but if you wait before the annual fee hits and close the card, you should be fine

  • NYCBK123

Does anyone know when the Ink 70k in-branch deal is expiring?

  • Jason

Ugh I currently have Amex Delta Gold card (Annual fee on December)
should I apply for Delta Platinum? or United?
    or both? :O

If we identify you as currently having an American Express® Card account, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have or have had this product.

    Wow that sucks.

  • Lester Diamond

I have Delta Amex as well. I applied to the Delta Platinum to hit the next status level. If you are close to getting status, worth it 100% and close the gold.

  • augias

you should really add that the platinum Delta card has a $195 fee which is not waived — that’s an important factor when deciding whether to apply!

  • augias

Dear TPG, I have a question: do you think one can apply for both the business gold delta card, as well as the platinum one, at the same time? I used to have the personal delta gold card but canceled it in early 2014… Would this be pushing my luck?

Virgin Atlantic offer expires this week as well.

    Hello-
We have never been involved with one of these programs before. Here is our situation:
We want to go to the U.S. Virgin islands in February. The 50,000 bonus miles and the $0 annual fee in the first year were what got our attention. We each currently have a sky miles account with Delta with 2000 miles in them and are planning another trip to Atlanta that would add another 1000 miles to it. When I spoke to a Delta rep she told me that currently the flight to USVI would take 55,000 miles at this time and could fluctuate between 40,000 and 65,000 miles between now and whenever we booked. She also gave us the flight that this could be booked at this time which is fine but said that that could change also. She also said that we could purchase miles in 2000 mile increments for $70. We are only interested in this program for this trip as we only fly 1 to 3 times a year max. We would probably cancel the card after the trip if that is allowed without any penalty. The terms are not an issue with us ($1000 expenditures in the first three months, etc. to qualify). We have the credit scores to qualify. I am thinking that my partner and I can each apply for a card separately since none of our finances or credit history are mixed and therefore each qualify for this program and a free flight basically. I am not clear on the concept of medallion miles but I don’t think that that would interest us either. Would this be a good plan for us or can someone blow holes in it and advise us on some better idea or program for our specific needs? Are their any pitfalls or cons to this plan? Basically we want to fly to the USVI for free. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We do not have an AMEX card or account and have never had one.
