Yesterday, IHG Rewards announced its fall promotion called Into the Nights, and registration is now open. IHG Rewards (formerly known as Priority Club) is the loyalty program of brands such as Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Hotel Indigo and more.

IHG has launched its fall promo, "Into the Nights."
IHG has launched its fall promo, Into the Nights.

To register for the promotion, log into your IHG Rewards account here. As with past IHG promos, bonuses will vary by account, so you have to log in to see what your specific promotional potential is, but the baseline seems to be one of these three bonuses:

  • 50,000 bonus IHG Rewards points
  • 2 free nights
  • 10,000 airline miles

To earn any of them, you must complete a number of tasks that can include anything from staying at an IHG property on a Saturday to taking surveys to downloading the IHG app and using it to book a stay, each of which offers a small bonus of its own. When you complete all the activities on your task list, you’ll get your full bonus.

Here is an example set of offers for an IHG Gold-level elite:

As you can see, in this case, most of the bonus points are earned for actual tasks, while just a 14,000-point bonus is earned upon completing them all, so this member will have to put in the legwork to scoop up all those bonus points – though some of them (like downloading the app and making a reservation, and applying for the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card) are pretty simple and earn you decent bonuses.

At the time of writing, there seems to be an issue with the promo page, so if you cannot register now, try again later today or tomorrow.

My Thoughts

While two free nights or 50,000 points (enough for an award night in a top-tier IHG property) are decent, I think the value of this promo really depends on the specific offer you get and how many hurdles you have to leap in order to unlock your full bonus.
Some folks have reported only having to book two or three stays in order to earn two free nights, which makes this something like a buy-one-get-one-free scheme. However, the IHG members reporting those terms seem to be mostly top-tier elites including Platinums and Royal Ambassadors, so the lower elites and non-elites out there might find their offers to be much less lucrative.

In general, this promo illustrates a trend in loyalty programs (not just hotels, but airlines and credit cards as well) where individuals receive targeted offers tailored specifically to their account history and behavior. On one hand, that means customers who are actually loyal and who spend time and money with these brands are getting better offers, so loyalty really can pay off.

On the other hand, it means that those who spread their travel love around will receive less lucrative offers, and less incentive to try new brands. Still, as hotel promos go, this one is fairly decent with the chance to earn two free nights with just a few stays.

To help readers get an idea of what offers are out there please share your bonus details in the comments below. (If you see one you like, you could always try calling IHG Rewards customer service and requesting a change to your offer.)

In the meantime, here’s a reminder of the other fall hotel promos currently available.

Hilton HHonors Triple Your Trip

From August 1 through October 31, Hilton is offering 2x bonus points for stays on Monday-Thursday nights, and triple points on Friday-Sunday stays. You can find details of the promotion here, and register for it here.

The bonus points are calculated from the base points you would normally earn, so 10x points per $1 at most Hilton brands (excluding Home2Suites, where you earn 5x points per dollar). Double points would end up earning you 20x points per $1, and triple points would be 30x. Bonus points do not count toward elite status.

Note that there is a list of non-participating hotels that include popular properties like the Hilton San Francisco Financial District, the Hilton Waikiki Beach, and the London Hilton on Park Lane.
