In order to to take advantage of this promotion, you’ll have to be enrolled in National’s Emerald Club loyalty program and opt in to receive emails from National. Once you register for “One Two Free 2014,” Emerald Club points will be awarded for each paid rental of a midsize or larger vehicle for any period of two or more consecutive days between August 20, 2014 and January 31, 2015. Through this promo, rentals can be made at participating National Car Rental locations in all 50 U.S. states (as well as Washington, D.C.), but credit won’t be given for rentals made prior to a member’s registration date.

The online dashboard for “One Two Free 2014″ (see image above) presents a variety of ways to earn points toward Free Rental Days, including 75 points for downloading the National smartphone app and using it to book your rental. If you want to earn even more points through the promotion, be sure to share the love: you’ll earn a bonus of 300 points for each person you refer who then enrolls in the promo and completes one qualifying rental by January 31, 2015.

Allow five business days for points earned in the this promotion to hit your account, and once you earn 600 points, you’ll have to wait up to two weeks to redeem a Free Rental Day. Visit this site to view your Free Rental Day coupons, click “Redeem,” and then make a reservation (at least 24 hours in advance) to rent a compact through full-size car from now through June 15, 2015.

No more than three Free Rental Days may be redeemed toward one rental of three or more days. Free Rental Day coupons exclude all taxes, surcharges, fuel charges, optional items and fees.

I suppose this is worth it for people that rent a lot (and I’m sure they’re out there), but I prefer the promos that earn bonus fly miles.

Agreed. I earned 3000 AA miles per rental, much better than a free rental day that invalidates CC insurance.

Update: You only earn referral points if the person is new to National Emerald club – not new to the promotion itself. Very misleading.

I made a reservation a few days back and today signed up for this promo. Will the promo be applied to my res, or do I need to cancel and rebook?

How did you earn 3000 AA miles per rental?

  • Ven

Coupon Code MUAA036 gets you between 1500-7500 AA miles depending on the length of rental and lasts until 8/31. MUAA004 tops out at 5K (still earns 3K on my usual rental) but is valid until 9/30. Hopefully Avis extended these promos again (they already did at least once).

    Rebook then cancel

as long as you put any amount on a card (it’s never quite free) your cc should cover the insurance as per usual

Most cards stipulate that the entire purchase must be put on the card. It’s in the fine print. There may be exceptions, but that’s the general rule. (I’ve actually been the victim of it before so I know.)

Yup. I didn’t even need a car, but I needed a few more AA miles to top off an award flight. I almost rented the car just to get the miles because it was actually cheaper for me than buying them through AA.

OK currently Chase Explorer and Sapphire Preferred (you are fine)

  • Ven

I should add that it’s through Avis, not National.

It seems like if you book directly with the site, then you have to cancel before 24 hours of your pickup time or be assessed a ‘no show’ fee. If you book outside of their site, such as through Travelocity, no credit card info is even taken, so there is not a ‘no show’ fee. Seems like there are plenty of advantages to not book through their program or website, right?
