I generally don’t rent cars anymore when I travel, because it’s more convenient and can even be cheaper to Uber everywhere I need to go. Plus, I can use my phone without having to worry about causing an accident and I save a ton of time not having to park or getting lost. Let’s just say I don’t miss my rental car days (and adding on an extra 30 minutes to airport trips to factor in returning the car).

Free Uber Ride

Free Uber Ride

Uber is now offering a free ride (up to $30) for new users (sign-up link). Note: I get a free ride if you sign-up with my link, so thanks in advance if you use my link!

  • Worth up to $30
  • Work anywhere in the USA
  • Good for all ride options, except uberTAXI
  • New users must sign up in the USA

Maximizing Points With Uber
This is in addition to their new Amex partnership (which I wouldn’t take advantage of unless I needed to boost my Membership Rewards balance). I’d rather use the Chase Sapphire Preferred to pay for my Uber rides because you earn 2.14x points per dollar spent because Uber is classified as a travel expense (2x) and then you get a 7% yearly dividend on all points earned. You can also use the Barclaycard Arrival Plus and Capital One Venture cards and earn 2x points and then use points at 1 cent each to erase the charge from your statement (minimum $25 with the Arrival Plus).

No offense, but do you REALLY need any more Uber credits on top of all the business expenses you can deduct? lol still appreciate the blog, just saying, it’d be more beneficial for the community if you let us post our own referral links in the comments section. :-)

  • thepointsguy

    Feel free to post!

  • gtg5017

Thanks Brian. Like I said, just being nitpicky. Still love the blog. My code is ZFWFH for anyone who still hasn’t given Uber a try!

  • Mike S HNL

Here is my referral if anyone wants to use that

  • TIS

Is there a deadline for using the free ride?

  • Cory

    ubersuber also works

  • Hayden

Facebook post for this article is clickbait. “free rides”, plural? must be getting desperate when a $10 increase in the one-time new user bonus for a car service is worthy of a whole article, with misleading facebook promotion

  • Steven

Feel free to pay it forward and use my link! :)

Jumping on the referral link bandwagon!

I just used Uber for the first time in Rome and was very impressed with the service. I’ll definitely check them out stateside.

Be careful posting your links guys! There are reports of Uber shutting down people because they are posting their referral link in comments sections of blogs…no joke!

For those of you using this service in NYC what are your experiences? I just checked Yelp and saw a massive number of negative reviews about credit card information being stolen, price gouging by drivers and unsafe vehicles. Given the abundance of highly regulated yellow cabs in NYC and what appears to be better reviewed and less expensive/ higher quality car services, I’m not sure why I would want to even risk signing up for this company. I can understand in smaller marketplaces where there may not be any competition.

  • Harry Potzer

How many free rides do you currently have? Just curious

  • Amber

Uber has saved my ass a couple of times in NYC during those times and places when cabs are just impossible to come by, and too late to call a car service. Of course, you’ll be charged a premium for it. Price gouging is definitely present (for example, 8x the regular fare whenever it snows).

I just signed up but don’t see a credit on my account anywhere. Is anyone seeing a $30 credit or is this one of those trust-us-we’ll-take-it-off-your-first-ride-we-promise promos?

  • theRideshareGuy

Not going to post my referral link but if any of you are interested in becoming drivers, you should check out my site! Who knows, maybe you’ll even get TPG himself as a passenger :)

  • Mike
