Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here – The Platinum Card from American Express

American Express and the US Travel Association (a non-profit dedicated to promoting US travel) have teamed up to offer various discounts and deals with travel brands and loyalty programs including hotel packages, points/miles purchase promos, rental car deals and more over the course of a month or so. The last time they came around was in June 2013, but Amex and USTA have announced that they’ll be back in May and running May 19-June 20, 2014.

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 4.32.37 PMDetails on this year’s packages will be released starting May 12, and they usually announce them week by week. As a reminder, past highlights have included the ability to purchase Hyatt points at an incredibly low 1.1 cent each, buying Choice Rewards points for 0.4 cents each (and you could then convert to Southwest points at a bonus), and purchasing Club Carlson points for 0.385 cents each – so some pretty great values if you know how to leverage the various loyalty programs.

There have also been some pretty fun Vegas packages, Hilton points packages, Hertz discounts and more, so if you read through the promos carefully, you are bound to find some interesting values. Not only that, but if you use an American Express card to purchase any of these – including cards many of us travel points people have like the Premier Rewards Gold, the Platinum and the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express – you get another 10% off.

Just remember, the number of packages is limited and goes live at 1:00pm EDT each week, so if you’re interested, you have to act fast, especially with those points bundles. So though details are still scarce at the moment, stay tuned because I’ll be covering the deals as they are announced and writing about my top picks.

Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express

There’s no telling how much longer these cards will be around and available for new applications because of the Marriott takeover, so now might just be the perfect time to apply. Apart from hotel redemptions, you can transfer Starpoints to over 30 airline partners, and now also transfer points from Starwood to Marriott Rewards at a 1:3 ratio, opening up even more redemption options.
