    Btw, it’s ColOmbia, not ColUmbia.

Looks like the IHG promo is only for Europe, with one or two exceptions (Israel, etc.).

  • John

How about mentioning that you can apply for the Barclays Arrival card over the phone and get the lower spending requirement of $1000 instead of $3000?

Oh, I forgot. No referral money for you that way. Oops.

  • Ned

    Israel is not in Europe.

Does The Points Guy get money for promoting these programs?

  • Chip Monsey

But lately it feels like Europe is in Israel.

  • John

His main source of income is credit card referrals for which he gets on average $200-$300 per card per person.

  • John

That’s why he longer provide solid advice and instead posts about why he likes Chase cards a lot or the Barclays Arrival card.

Before I get vitriol for being a hater. Let me give an example why I think his advice is skewed by the referral money: the Chase Sapphire Preferred gives a 7% annual dividend on what you spent.

If one charges $90k a year, you would get a 7% bonus of 6300 UR pts. Valuing it at let’s say 1.5 cents, you get $95 which is the equivalent of the annual fee. So unless you charge >$90k a year or spend a lot on travel/hotels, the card is probably not worth it. TPG will tell you that it’s an amazing card because of the $300 a pop he gets.
