One of the great aspects about having an American Express card that often gets overlooked are the exclusive offers that Amex gives its cardholders. The way to find your offers is to log into your Amex account and then click on the “Offers For You” tab.

Screen Shot 2014-02-07 at 9.10.32 AMThese offers vary depending on the specific card that you have, but they are normally statement credits of anywhere from $5-$50 based on how much you spend at a particular partner merchant. However, now through March 30, 2014, Amex is offering Platinum cardholders a special promo with one of their hotel partners, Mandarin Oriental. Stay 2 or 3 consecutive nights at one of the participating Mandarin Oriental hotels & get the 3rd or 4th consecutive night free.To book it, you must call 1-800-526-6566 or use this link by 3/30/14: mandarinoriental.com/americanexpress. According to the terms, you must both book and stay by March 30.

I actually tried using the link and it just takes you to the global Mandarin Oriental website and there’s no mention of this specific promo there anywhere I could find, though for reference, it’s called the “Fantastic Winter” discount, so you have to call in instead.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you can book this through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts – the booking site for Platinum cardholders where you get extra benefits thrown in like early check in, late check out, spa/dining credits, upgrades and more. I did a spot search of four MO properties looking at rates for 3-4 nights at each, and none were offering this last-night discount, though they all offered things like $100 spa and dining credits.

So what I’d suggest is calling Mandarin Oriental directly or booking through a travel agent who is part of their MO Fan Club, and asking for extra benefits that way – reference what FHR is offering and see if they will match it for you – while still getting your last night free. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Mandarin Oriental is a great luxury chain, and I loved my stay at their Vegas property in 2012. Though they only have 27 properties, they are in some great cities like San Francisco, New York, Miami, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Barcelona, Paris and Prague, to name a few. Room rates tend to be high since they’re luxury properties, so getting a free night could save you hundreds (or thousands) of dollars.

Also, don’t forget to check your own Amex offers to see what other discounts and promos you can take advantage of.

Here are the rest of the T&C:

Offer is subject to availability and blackout dates may apply. Guests must stay at least 2 or 3 consecutive paid nights to receive the complimentary night. For Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai, complimentary night is offered after the first paid night. A stay is considered to be consecutive nights at the same hotel. Only 1 complimentary night is available per stay. Offer may be repeated during promotion, but not during stay. Advance booking required. Guests may book up to a maximum of 3 rooms for the complimentary night offer per stay & must be part of the travelling party. Available room categories vary according to each participating property. Cancellation policy depends on the participating hotel. Contact the individual hotel for details. Offer cannot be exchanged for cash or used with any other promotions, special offers or privileges. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group reserves the right to change terms and conditions at any time. Must book through mandarinoriental.com/americanexpress or 1-800-526-6566. Mention Mandarin Oriental Fantastic Winter to receive discount. Offer valid when you pay with an eligible American Express Card. Fulfillment of the offer is sole responsibility of the participating American Express merchant. Offer valid for bookings by 3/30/14 and stay through 3/30/14. Limit one (1) discount per Cardmember per transaction. American Express® Corporate Cards & all prepaid card products are not eligible for Cardmember offer. POID: AX1O:0001

“Cheap”?! I guess everything is relative…

  • db

It is relative John, TPG would have the same title for 50% off four points hotels.

  • Alex

I got same offer for my Amex gold prc, through amex sync.

  • Matthew S

Given the rates I’ve seen at MO, I wouidn’t say that even the 3rd night free is “cheap”. The hotels are nice but I don’t think they command rates above Ritz, Four Seasons, some boutique 5*. I just stayed at the Royal Horseguards in London (5* on embankment) and found it to be incredible value at $300/night. MO in London was easily $800+/night.

Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, where I’m planning on using this myself, is $200/night and is the #1 ranked hotel in Jakarta on TripAdvisor. With this promo that’s effectively $133/night (plus tax).

MOHG *is* offering the same comp night offers via FHR. Check the FHR website or call Platinum Travel.

Only 475 euros for my stay in Barcelona…PER NIGHT!

New York MO has this offer.

Anybody here with experience in a Central Park View Suite?

Looks like a fantastic room, and the location is excellent.

    $200/night in Las Vegas too

“One of the great aspects about having an American Express” is that even when you have the Platinum AMEX, you don’t have Access to the same online portal,so to tell you just one difference in Europe (at least in Spain) we don’t have “Offers for you”. You should consider change your first sentence to a more specific location. :)

Offer isn’t limited to Platinum cardholders; I got this offer on my Amex Blue!

My advice to all who read this article is to stay away from the
Mandarin Oriental Hotel unless you like bedbugs.

    Back
in may, our family traveled to Paris on business. We arrived at the Mandarin
Oriental Hotel, late night. We checked into two rooms-one for my husband and I
and one for our two adult children.

On the 20th, my daughter complained that has bedbugs and she had red blotches on her legs. I purchased
some cortisone cream and had her use it on her legs, which helped. We again
arrived back at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the night of the 21th. My 22
year old daughter woke in the middle of the night to something crawling in her
bed- She ran out of the room, down the
hall to our room and banged on the door. She had bedbugs in her hair (she has
long hair) and in her pajamas. We called down to the front desk and were told
by Arina duty manager there was no other rooms available and that there was
an ( ARAB FAMILy NIGHTS BEFORE ) and that they would have an
exterminator come up and take care of the bedbugs IN THE MORNING!

Meanwhile, our two children spend the rest of the night in our room (thankfully
we had two beds). Upon checkout on the 22nd,
we woke up to find the rooms already charged to my credit card. I called
a second time down to the front desk for the hotel manager. He as not in and
the assistant manager was in a meeting (on a Sunday morning)…I tried to work
out a discount or credit to my bill prior to my departure, but was informed I
would have to speak to one of the managers.

Later that morning when I finally reached the same duty manager Arina, I was
told I would not be receiving a credit for the bedbugs infested hotel room. Yes,
there were bedbugs in the room, and yes, they did spray but I was told by Arina
that no one is allergic to bedbugs. In
essence, she told me I was lying.

We have been Mandarin Oriental guests since 2004. Our daughter was very
    traumatized over this experience.

Hotel Duty manager Arina: no way no how are we refunding you anything for your
room-we have never heard of anyone experiencing an allergic reaction to bedbugs in a
    hotel rooms .

    you
should expect to find them there, after all it is sometime natural

    No
we cannot provide you with another room-it is the height of tourist season and
we have no other rooms-you are simply trying to get out of paying for your
rooms…at the end of the day our books have to balance.

Act of Racism at Mandarin Oriental Paris.

    I was sitting in a
common area (lobby)of the Mandarin Oriental Paris hotel on he phone with my Nigerian
family ( may be a little loud) and was confronted by a hotel Chinese employee
    named Arina Phouthakhanty
who said, “This place is for guests of the hotel. You must leave.” Room was
    registered under my assistant name.

The worker would hear none of my explanation that i was a
guest. she insisted that i must leave immediately.

After it was established that indeed i was a distinguished
guest of the Mandarin Oriental Paris Hotel and good friend of GM Philipe
Leboeuf. She apologized by offering some complimentary drink and a later and
try to explain hat she was part of the management team.

I asked for Mister Leboeuf and was told that he left few
minutes ago. Not true , and i am sure he didn’t have any report of this
    incident.

This incident needs to be publicized as much as possible
because i cannot believe it is an isolated incident. Let it be a warning to
others that we are not going to allow people to get away with this kind of behavior
in 2014. It is not simply a matter of sacking the employee Arina Phouthakhanty – it is about changing attitudes and training
staff appropriately. And if that is not being done then the apology is
    worthless.

    I think i
can’t stay anywhere better than the famous George V in Paris. Also staying in a Four Seasons Hotel
is a guarantee of quality and excellent service. I still consider that Mandarin
Oriental Paris is a good hotel.
