You don’t often see big new member bonuses from hotels – usually they’ll throw you a couple thousand points or a discount code – but Marriott is offering a new member bonus of a free night at a Category 1-5 property for folks who sign up and complete two stays within 120 days of the end of the month in which they sign up. So if you signed up in January, you’d pretty much have until the end of May to complete your two stays and earn the free night.hero-US

To earn your free night:

  • Join Marriott Rewards and be automatically registered to earn your free night certificate
  • Stay twice at participating hotels during your earning period*. Your earning period starts the day you enroll through the end of that month, plus an additional 120 days
  • Earn a free night at a category 1 – 5 hotel after your 2nd paid stay

* A stay is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity.

What’s great is that this promo is stackable with Marriott’s upcoming Megabonus promo where you also earn a free night (at a Category 1-4 property for most people) after two stays – so if you join now and register for the Megabonus, you could actually get 2 free nights after 2 stays, which could be a pretty great deal.

Here are the rest of the new member promo terms.

Is there a link or webpage for this promo for reference?

I’m sorry, I still don’t understand what a stay is. Can I like stay 1 night in January and 1 night in February and get the bonus?

  • UrbanPhoenixInjunCAM

I did the Stay 2 Nights and get a Free Night Promo (Category 1-4) at Ritz Carlton over the summer.

Does the Membership Number I received from Ritz Carlton preclude me from this promo?

  • Kent C

If you were a Marriott member before 11/4 you don’t qualify for this offer, is that correct?

  • Dusan

Yes, you can. A stay is when you check in, stay there, and check out. Whether that’s one night, or 5 nights in a row, it’s your decision.

  • Jon H

Can this be combined with Rocketmiles or PointsHound?

  • Prashant

i just joined MR, but do not see this mentioned in the offer and also didn’t find any such offer officially from Marriott. Can you please share the weblink based on which you are publishing this offer ?

  • thepointsguy

No – when you book through an OTA like that you generally forgo earning hotel points.

  • thepointsguy

Yes, you have to sign up through the link for a new membership.

  • thepointsguy

In general Marriott and Ritz-Carlton only allow you to have one membership or the other, but you could always try.

Per Lufthansa’s instructions, I transferred Visa points to Marriott who in turn was supposed to transfer all 103k points to Lufthansa to purchase a biz class seat. Instead Marriott only will transfer 15% of the points which means it is impossible to get the flight. Marriott won’t return the points to Visa, Visa says they can’t get them back. We don’t stay in hotels. Do you have any advice on how to get use of these 103k points that are now seemingly stuck with Marriott? Thanks!

Hate it when they give better benefits to new members than to existing ones. Best Western does it with their credit card too.

For me this promo was pretty at “stay 2 get one” but with the stack it’s more like “molten chocolate lava on your desert plate overlooking white sands & blue waters to the edge of the sky” kind of pretty now! :) Thank. You.

    Hello TPG,
I just signed up for a new account within the last month, except that I cannot remember if I signed up through the “new members free night” page- I do not see the new member bonus in the promo section of my account. Does this mean that I will not qualify for the new member free night if it is not listed in my promos section? thanks
