Sharing positive things with a friend is always enjoyable, especially when you get rewarded for it. Which is why I was happy to hear that the personal American Express Starwood and Premier Rewards Gold cards now have “Refer A Friend” promotions where you can get 5,000 extra bonus points when someone you know signs up for one of these cards through your referral link and gets approved. (Note: some Platinum cardholders have reported getting referral bonus offers of up to 7,500 points, so if you have that card, be on the lookout when logged into your account as well).

Starwood Preferred Guest Referral

Earn 5,000 bonus points with a Starwood Preferred Guest Amex referral.

Simply log into your account through this referral page, and the option should be there on the top left-hand corner, select the card that you wish to refer and click “Continue,” enter your friend’s name and email address and add additional names by clicking the “+” icon for a total of 11 referrals. This could be a targeted promotion so please let me know below if you had access to it in your account.

You can earn up to 55,000 extra points in a calendar year for referrals. Apart from hotel stays, remember that Starpoints can be very valuable thanks to great redemption options including transferring to airline partners (with bonuses), high-value redemption options like Cash & Points awards, elite status credit and more. You can also transfer them to 31 different airline partners, including those without other transfer partners like Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards.

The current sign-up bonus for the Starwood Amex is 25,000 Starpoints – 10,000 Starpoints after your first purchase on the card and an additional 15,000 Starpoints after you it to make $5,000 in purchases within the first 6 months.

The Premier Rewards Gold

The Amex Premier Rewards Gold has a current sign-up bonus of 50,000 points.

The Premier Rewards Gold card currently has a sign-up bonus of 50,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $1,000 in 3 months if you are targeted through CreditCards.com’s Card Match Tool. Otherwise, the public offer is 25,000 Membership Rewards points after you use it to make $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. This card also awards you with 15,000 bonus points after you spend $30,000 in purchases in one year.

I was given the refer a friend option for my personal DL Gold Card but not my HHonors. The DL option my friend is given is the standard 30k with a $50 statement credit after a DL purchase and $1k spend (which isn’t as good as the targeted offer that’s floating around).

If they’re really your friend, you’d know better to refer them to Skypesos.

You refer a friend to an SPG Amex.

You refer an enemy to anything co-branded DL.

While there’s no question that Skymiles are worth less than other currencies, by leveraging all tools in the MS toolbelt, Skymiles are very easy to accumulate. 30k (or 50k miles if you’re targeted) gets you to an award faster.

Can you refer yourself to the SPG Business Card if you have the personal?

  • Ben Price

I agree they’re easy to accumulate. I have about 800k at my disposal thru CC spend and flying (DL captive here, Jacksonville FL).

I’d still trade my 800k for half that in United or AA miles.

I can’t even find a decent redemption to PEK, NRT, TPE, PVG, HKG, KIX in April at under 300k/pp!!!

    What’s the point?!

Isn’t the Starwood Personal card only a 10k bonus after first purchase bonus right now? I have a starwood biz account but I don’t see the refer a friend option for that card. I only see the option for amex gold(I don’t have a starwood personal card)

  • Ncsam

Are you sure? If I’m looking at this correctly, from JAX to PEK in April I see a lot of saver level space. It might not be on your preferred dates and you might prefer to fly on a partner (or not have ridiculous layovers), though.

  • shay peleg

Yeah what 25k offer (just after purchase?)

  • shay peleg

I got some for 120k so you must not be trying

amex membership rewards 30% less points which is 43% additional value.
