Fast on the heels of Hilton’s announcement Monday that it would be discontinuing its Points + Variable Miles double dipping earning option, the program sent out emails to targeted elites who have already requalified for their current status in 2013 for the 2014 year the opportunity of a “Status Jumpstart” where all their future stays (not nights) through the end of 2013, in addition to their 2014 stays, will count towards their 2015 status.Screen shot 2013-11-05 at 2.14.17 PMPer the terms and conditions, this is a targeted offer and is valid on eligible stays completed between November 1 and December 31, 2013 HHonors members must first register for the offer prior to the check-out of the first stay within the promotion period.

The offer applies only to stays and will not count towards the HHonors member’s Base Points or nights in 2014. The elite status you earn or maintain (through this promo will be valid until March 2016.

I think this is an interesting promo on Hilton’s part that’s sort of like Delta’s Rollover miles where any miles you earn above and beyond your elite status threshold requirement but below the next threshold count towards your next year’s elite status qualification – and it’s clearly a way for Hilton to encourage its elites who have already requalified for 2014 to continue staying at Hilton rather than straying to another chain. Another way to look at it, though, is that it cannabalizes your qualification activity for 2014, so if you are on the Hilton hamster wheel, you could finish your qualification early again – even earlier next year – and then try out some other chains once you hit your desired HHonors elite status threshold.

I think this would be a much better promo if Hilton offered rollover night credit in addition to the stay credit since you could theoretically book a holiday vacation of 10 nights – enough to requalify you for HHonors Silver status – but it would only count as a single stay toward next year’s qualification, whereas someone who booked 4 one-night stays would get four times the requalification credit.

Still earning stay credit is better than nothing, and if you are one of the targeted elites who got this offer and 1) are interested in requalifying despite the horrible changes to Hilton’s program this past year, and 2) have some short stays to book with Hilton before the end of the year, this could be worth getting in on.

Marriott already does rollover nights so this is hardly groundbreaking and surely this doesn’t make up for their constant devaluations. I’ll be dropping from HH Diamond to Silver come next year.

The HH Gold that now (for a limited time) comes with the Amex Platinum turns out to be for the 2014 year only (and is extended to April 2015), but does not apply in 2013….which was too bad, but that’s how I found out…

appreciate the gesture from Hilton, but after the crap they pulled earlier this year (devaluing our points), I think I’m still going to Hyatt in 2014. This from a HH Diamond member with ~1.8 million points. Anyone made the transition – does Hyatt have a status match program?

I am Hilton Diamond member with 1.4 million points and a Lifetime Marriott and SPG Platinum member, my focus now is Hyatt’s Gold Passport and aiming for Lifetime Diamond for which I am 45% of the way. Therefore, with a lack of a lifetime HHonors membership, my focus will now be Hyatt. Goodbye HHonors, I can still get your Gold level without much of an effort so improve your programme before I give any of my business to you!

Signed up last week and my account was already upgraded.

So did mine…… It’s not what the agent who elooked the info up told me, but he specifically stated it should be good up and to Q2 2015.

I am an Hhonors Diamond member (for the last 10 yeasrs) but did not receive the targeted offer and am unable to link in through your link above. As a Canadian I suspect that, once again, our second class status is evident.

I did back in Feb. Made my decision just before I found out about the deval based on crap experience at gas lamp hilton and a couple others. 12 nights in 60 days based off HH Gold (was aiming back to diamond) as diamond during it.

It was not the glorious place the bloggers describe. At least not at first. Read Ben’s entry about the Andaz 5th ave and you’ll know the room I got without a budge or care from the staff as my first stay as diamond. I did get one comp suite upgrade along the way to my 25 stays this year at a hotel we hit for about 10 of those stays. Was about stay number 7 at that hotel. But the bonus points cranked up quickly. Between closed club, promos, etc. I earned more than enough for 5 free nights at a top property (before they just deval, but i already had the booking) in a single year, 25 stays/25 nights pattern.

Can you provide any sort of proof this is legit? I can’t find this promo anywhere else, including the links.
