As 2013 starts winding down, several airlines are offering promotional bonuses for flying a certain amount or on certain routes in order to keep flyers flying and to attract new customers during the approaching holiday season. Here’s a roundup of what’s being offered at the moment.
Alaska is offering a series of interesting promos highlighting its west coast routes, and the good news is, they appear to be stackable so that you can start earning bonus award and elite-qualifying miles as well as a free roundtrip ticket.
Double Elite Qualifying Miles From Seattle: Yesterday, Alaska launched a promo offering double elite-qualifying miles on flights between Seattle and the cities of Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland (OAK), San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC) and Santa Rosa (STS). To earn the bonus, register your Mileage Plan number prior to your first qualifying flight, and travel between October 22, 2013 and May 31, 2014. Flights must be marketed and operated by Alaska Airlines and must be non-stops to/from those cities. Flight miles must be credited to your Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account in order to earn the double EQM’s, so no crediting your flights to partners American or Delta. All travel must be completed by May 31, 2014.
Up to 10,000 Bonus Miles From Seattle and Portland: Earn up to 10,000 bonus miles from Alaska Airlines when you fly 3 roundtrips (six flights in total) on any of the routes below, or fly 2 round trips (four flights in total) and earn 5,000 miles. Double Points and Elite-Qualifying Points Through December: Virgin America is currently hosting a promotion that allows flyers to rack up tons of points if you purchase Main Cabin Select or First Class fares, and a decent amount of points if you purchase and fly in coach fares from now until December 31, 2013. Elevate points can be redeemed for any Virgin America flight, but the value of the points towards airfare depends on the flight, but they are normally worth 1.2 to 2 cents a piece towards airfare. So a $500 flight would cost ~25,000 points. Register here then earn the following bonuses:
First Class/ Main Cabin Select Bonus:
Normally you earn 5 Elevate points per dollar spent. From now until December 31, 2013 you will earn 10 points per dollar when you book First Class (J, C, D Fare Classes) or Main Cabin Select (W, Q, Z Fare Classes). If you purchase economy and upgrade, it will not be eligible for double points. This offer is only good for flights ticketed and operated by Virgin America .
Bonus for all:
Then there’s a separate bonus of up to 25,000 additional points that is calculated on the base amount of points you earn from flights September 10- December 31, 2013 which includes Economy, Main Cabin Select and First Class fares.
$2,500 in base points earned ($500 in spend) = 1,000 Elevate point bonus (~$20 value)
$5,000 in base points earned ($1,000 in spend) = 2,500 Elevate point bonus (~$50 value)
$10,000 in base points earned ($2,000 in spend) = 5,000 Elevate point bonus (~$100 value)
$15,000 in base points earned ($3,000 in spend) = 10,000 Elevate point bonus (~$200 value)
$20,000 in base points earned ($4,000 in spend) = 15,000 Elevate point bonus (~$300 value)
$25,000 in base points earned ($5,000 in spend) = 25,000 Elevate point bonus (~$500 value)
All bonus points earned during the promotion will count towards elite status. You need 20,000 Elite Qualifying Points for Silver and 50,000 for Gold. Find out more about the promo here.
