If you’re a tennis fan, we’ve got a really exciting prize for this week’s Thursday Giveaway. I talked to the good folks over at American Express, and they (and their partners at Starwood) have given me two tickets to a US Open match to give away to one lucky winner this week.

The tickets are for the Men’s and Women’s First Round matches on Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 am.

To enter the contest, send me a Tweet @ThePointsGuy with the hashtag #TPGUSOPEN telling me about your favorite tennis moment. It can be anything – from your father teaching you to hit the ball around, to Federer winning his record-tying seventh Wimbledon title, to Andre Agassi and Stefi Graff getting married. As long as it’s tennis-related, it counts.

You have until 5:00pm ET on Saturday, August 24, to Tweet me, and then we’ll announce the winner on Monday.

The prize is only the two tickets to the match. The winner will be responsible for traveling to/from the US Open and any other incidentals such as meals.

Your Starpoints can get you access to this year's US Open at the USTA center in Flushing, NY.

How You Can Go, Too

Even if you don’t win, if you have a Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card, you can still get to the US Open this year. 35,000 Starpoints will get you a pair of tickets to an exclusive cardmember event in the SPG Luxury Suite at the 2013 US Open, with
complimentary food and beverages. The event also takes place on Tuesday, August 27, and cardmembers who redeem their points for this experience have their choice of attending either the Day Session at 11:00 am or the Evening Session at 7:00 pm.

To RSVP for your tickets, you must email SPGCardTennisSuite@starwoodhotels.com with your first and last name, the session you would like to attend, your SPG number, and your address if you would like your tickets shipped to an address other than the one associated with your SPG account. There is a limit 1 pair of tickets per cardmember.

Events like this are just another perk to great credit cards like the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express. If you don’t yet have the card, which is one of my favorite travel credit cards thanks to the value and versatility of the Starpoints it earns, American Express is currently offering limited-time sign-up bonuses on both the personal and business versions of the card of 30,000 points when you spend $5,000 in 6 months. That’s a 20% increase over the usual bonuses on these cards, and usually only comes around only once a year.

In the meantime, for all of you who already have the card and attend the event, I hope you have a great time, and for the rest of you interested in the two tickets I have to offer – Tweet me and good luck!
