Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:
Starwood Preferred Guest Amex 30,000-Point Sign-Up Bonus: It’s that time of year again – the 30,000-point sign-up bonus offers on both the personal and business versions of the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express cards are back for a limited time through September 3, 2013. The normal bonus on these cards is just 25,000 points for the same minimum spending requirement of $5,000 in 6 months, so this is a 20% bonus. You’ll receive up to 5 Starpoints for every dollar of eligible spend charged directly with Starwood. There is a $65 annual fee that is waived for the first year. You can view my full review here of the card.
Enter To Win This Week’s Thursday Giveaway: This week’s Thursday Giveaway is for 20,000 British Airways Avios deposited into your account. That’s enough for a one-way economy award ticket on Aer Lingus from New York JFK, or almost enough for a roundtrip award ticket in economy from Boston to Dublin (which requires only 25,000 Avios!) thanks to BA’s distance-based awards. In order to win this prize, you need to follow me on Instagram (you can download through the Apple or Android stores) and keep a lookout for the photos I take with my “lucky charm” (to make it easier for you, I’ll hashtag eligible pictures with #tpgluckycharm). For every photo with my lucky charm that you “like,” you’ll be entered for a chance to win. The contest will go until 5pm ET Sunday, and then we’ll announce the winner on Monday.
Marriott Megabonus Promotion – Stay Twice Earn 1 Night Free: Marriott announced their next Megabonus promotion which will run from September 15, 2013-January 15, 2014, and awards one free night (up to two max) at a Category 1-5 property for every two stays, which you can redeem for up to a year after it’s issued. You can register for the promotion here. You can redeem your free nights at any of nearly 3,000 Category 1-5 properties and the free nights must be used within 1 year from date of issue. Some people will get different offers because, unlike a lot of the other chains, Marriott specializes offers for each member, so what you have in your Marriott.com account may vary depending on your past stays and your elite status.
Aerolineas Argentinas Resumes Buenos Aires to New York Service: SkyTeam partner Aerolineas Argentinas plans to resume daily nonstop Buenos Aires to New York service on December 15. The flight information is as follows: AR 1300, Buenos Aires (EZE) – New York (JFK) 23:59 – 09:04, and return AR 1301, New York (JFK) – Beunos Aires (EZE), 15:20 – 04:40. To check for award availability on these new flights, the place to look is on the Air France site, which will show partner availability. The great thing is you can then book these awards with your Delta SkyMiles. An economy award would be 60,000 SkyMiles plus $75 and a business class award would be 100,000 SkyMiles and around $75 in taxes and fees. Hat Tip – Rapid Travel Chai
