New Marriott Megabonus Promotion – Stay 2 Stays Earn 1 Night Free (September 15-January 15)

in Marriott

Marriott announced their next Megabonus promotion which will run from September 15, 2013-January 15, 2014 and awards one free night (up to two max) at a Category 1-5 property for every two stays, which you can redeem for up to a year after it’s issued. You can register for the promotion here.

Some people will get different offers because, unlike a lot of the other chains, Marriott specializes offers for each member, so what you have in your Marriott.com account may vary depending on your past stays and your elite status. Other offers being reported this time around include points bonuses of 25,000-50,000 points for anywhere from 12-25 paid nights depending on which you are targeted for.

To find out which specific offer you get, you will need to sign into your account. If there’s nothing there, it’s worth emailing or calling Marriott Rewards to see if you’re eligible or whether someone there can help you become so.

Marriott MegaBonus

Be sure to register for the Marriott MegaBonus offer.

Here are the details of the published promotion:

  • Register by November 15, 2013
  • Stay twice between September 15, 2013, and January 15, 2014
  • Earn 1 free night after every second paid stay, up to 2 free nights
  • Redeem your free nights at any of nearly 3,000 Category 1-5 properties
  • Free nights must be used within 1 year from date of issue
  • Participating brands include JW Marriott, EDITION, Autograph Collection Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, AC Hotels by Marriott, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Courtyard by Marriott, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, TownePlace Suites by Marriott and Marriott Vacation Club. Stays at our exclusive luxury hotel partner, The Ritz-Carlton, will count toward achievement.

Maximizing the Offer

Book some cheap stays for around $50 per night to get the most value.

Book some cheap stays for around $50 per night to get the most value.

They’ve had this similar offer in the past, and while it’s not the most lucrative hotel promotion, if you know how to maximize on the deal, you’ll be able to reap some value from it.

To get the highest values from this, you’d have to plan ahead and stay at some properties on the low end of the spectrum, like the Category 2 Fairfield Inn & Suites Dulles Airport, where rooms in September are going for around $50 a night, and then find a high-value property like the JW Marriott Houston, where room rates are around $329 a night.

You could use your free nights at the JW Marriott Houston a category 5 property.

You could use your free nights at the JW Marriott Houston a category 5 property.

So if you spent 4 nights in Dulles for a total of around $200, you’d get 2 free-night credits you could use at the JW Marriott, worth about $658. Once again, an extreme situation – for most people this will be much less lucrative.

As usual with Marriott’s Megabonus promos, the key is being flexible, looking at places you might not normally stay, and looking at some offbeat destinations to pull the most value out of your free nights.

    A Note About This Promotion

We’re sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.

The reason for this error could be:

You’re trying to access a miles promotion and are a points-earner, or vice versa

You are not eligible for this promotion

    This promotion has expired

Updating your earning preference is fast and easy; simply sign into your account. For all other issues, please contact Marriott Rewards Customer Support.

  • UrbanPhoenixInjunCAM

I registered without any problem just now.
Can’t wait to try this promotion because I just completed 2 stays at Ritz Carlton and I received my certificate for ONE FREE NIGHT at any Tier 1-3 property.

I used my Ritz number to register.

  • fordpickup

Two stays means two separate check-in/out experiences, not two nights, right?

  • RW

Yes, You cannot check-out and check-in into same property..Anything that has <2 days in between, is still counted as 1 stay, I think.

  • El_Prez

I signed up for this thanks! Also saw I was offered the “Just for You” promotion which is perhaps more useful to me. I have 3 award certs now and it seems everywhere I want to go is higher than Cat5.

  • Joe

I don’t think you can do both the Ritz and the Marriott ones; you need to pick one account or the other.

  • James

Would stays that were negotiated at a group rate count? I don’t see anything mentioned in the T&C regarding that?

  • brianlinca

Thanks for the tip, TPG. I followed the link, which directed me to sign in and was able to register – i wonder if my newly minted Marriott Gold status (received through the new United/Marriott partnership) made me eligible for the promotion, since I had never stayed at a Marriott before.

I must say that the “RewardPlus” program has led me to consider Marriott more often than I would have (Hyatt is typically my first choice, with SPG as a backup and Hilton as last resort), now with Marriott gold benefits I consider Marriott before SPG when Hyatts are not available or too expensive. Well played, Marriott.

  • Greg

Maybe I am missing something but don’t the terms require you to have 2 stays, not 2 nights? Here is what I saw:

“A ‘stay’ is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity.”

For the Dulles example, wouldn’t you only receive 1 free night credit for the 4 paid nights?

Trying to determine whether this promotion is worth it.

  • ttxtri

thats what i got also. I’m a silver if that matters. i will call in the morning and see what they say. I have a few stays already booked for October so i hope it works!

  • Spacetime17

Your earning preferences are probably set to miles instead of Marriott points. Try switching them to points and you should see the promotion.

  • Hans

I got the same error at first. I just went in to my account preferences and made the switch to points from miles and then went back to register and got the 2 for 1 promotion.

  • John

What is your role in #waywire? You’re listed as an advisor.

  • Matt

Do you have to start or complete a stay by sept 15…just happens I have a one night stay on 9/14.

  • elliotnotsam

i am platinum preferred and the current megabonus offer still is shown with no new offers yet available (even though i have only stayed a couple of times since i have been moving my spend to hyatt since the marriott devaluation this year). I am guessing we may have to wait until later this month or next to see offers for higher level marriott members (which usually require 15 nights or more to earn bonuses)

  • Jerry

I’m Marriott Silver and see the same error

I’m earning Points for sure, not miles (I’ve changed back and forth and no luck)

I also tried on 2 computers, 2+ browsers, at work & home, no luck

I’ve received all previous Megabonus/Unexpected offers too

    This is frustrating

  • Courtney

Do you know if I can book 2 rooms on the same night to count as 2 separate 1-night stays (one room for my family and another for my in-laws)? Thanks!

  • Will

Do you have to book directly through Marriott to take advantage of this or can you go through a portal/OTA? I read all the T&Cs but couldn’t anything that says you have to book with Marriott.

  • Paul

I got the same thing. I can’t seem to get the “earn a free night” promotion. It keeps directing me to a promotion with points. Were you able to get it fixed?

  • BBK

Did you solve your problem? I’m just reading and got the same error (also Silver and earning points), I Can’t sign to this promo neither for the “Just for You” promo. Don’t know what’s going on.
