Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:

US Airways 100% bonus Buy Miles offer.
US Airways 100% bonus Buy Miles offer.

Targeted 100% US Airways Buy Miles Bonus: As a recap from earlier this week, US Airways is currently offering a targeted bonus of 100% for buying or gifting miles up to 50,000 (so 100,000 with the bonus) now through July 31, 2013. Miles are sold for $.035 cents each plus a 7.5% tax recovery charge. You can only buy up to 50,000 miles at time (100,000 with the bonus), and 100,000 miles through the buy miles promotion costs $1,881.25, or nearly 1.9 cents per mile. Although buying miles can be costly and usually only makes sense with a specific redemption in mind, given the fact that US Airways will merge with American sometime in 2014 and the deal is expected to close by the end of the summer, this could be one of your last chances to get in on a 100% bonus on purchased miles.

Earn Double Miles On American’s New Routes To And From Los Angeles: American is adding several new routes from Los Angeles this summer and to celebrate, they are offering AAdvantage members double miles when they fly between Los Angeles and some of these new cities beginning August 27th. To qualify, you must first register using promo code AALAX. This is valid for nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, PA, Indianapolis, IN, Columbus, OH, Hartford, CT, and Northwest Arkansas (XNA). In addition, you can earn an additional 5,000 bonus AAdvantage miles if you fly round-trip between Los Angeles and at least three different new nonstop destinations, including LAX- Raleigh-Durham, NC, Eugene, OR and Redmond, OR. This deal is good for flights from August 27, 2013 through November 30, 2013. The double miles will be calculated at 100% of the base miles flown and you must register before you fly. As a note, American is also offering bonus miles to those who book Iberia flights from LA, Boston and Chicago to Madrid this summer, and double miles for summer travel to Tokyo.

Virgin Atlantic Announces Lifetime Gold Status: Virgin Atlantic has begun offering Lifetime Gold Status for those members who have earned 300 tier points on Virgin Atlantic flights and have held Gold Flying Club status for 10 consecutive years. Virgin Atlantic Gold status entitles travelers to Upper Class check-in, priority boarding, and fast track through immigration and security. You’ll also receive a special gift once you have flown one million miles on them. Virgin Atlantic Gold Members now receive additional benefits when flying on Delta including 100% bonus miles on all Delta flights, access to Delta Sky Clubs, extra baggage allowance, priority check-in, security and boarding. While Virgin Atlantic Gold status isn’t the most valuable, it is nice to see this enhancement to their Flying Club program.

The ground is no longer the limit with Uber.

Uber Expands to the Helicopter Business: Uber is one of my all-time favorite travel apps because it allows you to page private cars and taxis directly from your smartphone without having to wait out on the street and try to hail a cab or call a town car. Earlier this week, they were testing out a new service called UberCHOPPER which they had in place for rides between New York City and the Hamptons. The pricing was $3,000 for the ride and the chopper can seat up to 5 people. Other ways to get from the city to the Hamptons on Uber include an one of their cars including an uberX car for $300; an UberBLACK car for $400; or an UberSUV that seats 6 for $500. As a reminder, they are offering a $45 Credit For New Uber Members which can be used in any city not just NY. Uber hasn’t announced if this will be a permanent feature, but it would be cool if they did keep this and offered it to other locations such as from NYC to JFK and LaGuardia.

1500 Free Air Berlin Miles: From now through July 31, 2013, Air Berlin is offering new members who sign up for its frequent flyer program 1,500 bonus miles. Register here, and get 1,000 miles as a welcome gift and a further 500 miles for selecting email as your chosen form of communication. Air Berlin is a member of Oneworld and is also partners with Etihad. Although you might not be hoarding miles on it now, one great thing about Air Berlin is that they regularly offer status matches, so if you have status on another non-partner airline, you might be able to get it matched and then when you fly its Oneworld partners, be treated to elite privileges.

Wyndham Double Points Summer Promo: Wyndham Rewards is offering a summer promo where you earn double points starting with your second stay booked between now and September 13, 2013 for stays through September 20. To be eligible, you must register first here, and then all your stays after that will count toward qualifying for the promo and earning double points once you do. Previously booked reservations do not count and double points are capped at five stays (so you earn double points on stays 2-5). Not the most inspiring promo, but if you have some Wyndham stays coming up, bonus points are bonus points.
