Club Carlson has revealed the details of its upcoming summer promo where members can earn 10,000 bonus points for each stay of two nights or more. You must register for the promo on the registration page prior to the checkout of your first stay (so if you’re already in the middle of a stay you can still register!) and then starting today, May 13, 2013, through July 21, 2013, when you complete a stay of two nights or more at any Club Carlson property – including Radisson, Radisson Blu, Park Inn by Radisson, Park Plaza and Country Inns & Suites – you’ll earn 10,000 bonus points in addition to the 20 base points per $1 you normally earn and any elite bonuses. There’s no cap on the number of bonus points you can earn.

Club Carlson 2 Nights 10KAward stays and Points + Cash stays are not eligible for the bonus, so these must be paid stays. While decent, this isn’t one of Carlson’s more exciting promos and doesn’t really compare to last year’s Big Night Giveaway where you could have earned up to 50,000 bonus points on a single nights’ stay and up to 138,000 bonus points by stacking three promos together. 10,000 bonus points is enough for a free night at a Category 1 property such as the Park Inn Fresno, but in order to earn a free night at a top-tier Category 6 property like the Radisson Blu Cape Town or the May Fair Hotel in London, you’d need to stay at least 10 nights to earn the 50,000 points necessary.

Still, if your upcoming hotel plans include the possibility of Club Carlson stays, might as well earn 10,000 bonus points per two-night stay for the next couple of months.

Definitely not enough motivation to get me to move any of my stays to Carlson. Basically a 90% devaluation from last year’s promotion, more so when coupled with the recent category changes. Hopefully they’ll come out with a better one later in the year!

What happens when your “earnings preference” is miles? In my case: United. Do the bonus points translate into miles?

Considering my current client has me in a Park Inn (sitting in my room right now) this will net me nearly 100k extra points. I’ll take that.

Of course we just booked 2 nights, July 25-27… Which don’t qualify by 4 days

It’s not a devaluation. A devaluation is what would happen to Club Carlson’s points if they kept having insane points bonuses. No value has been reduced.

10,000 points!! Oh boy! What a deal – worth all of $14.80

Well, it’s not rocket science to figure out what will happen next year – after all the suckers switch to Carlson from Hilton – and then get the rug pulled out again with a Carlson devaluation…

10,000 points is enough to redeem for a Points + Cash rate which often make a very expensive hotel a reasonable price.

10,000 points are worth at least $80. You typically can save $40 off the nightly rate at Country Inn with 5000 points. Or with 50,000 points you can stay at a Radisson Blu anywhere in the world. Last November, I stayed in a suite at the Sydney Radisson Blu for 2 nights for 100,000 points. The rate was $450 per night plus tax. That is a value of $100 for 10,000 points.
