Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:
TPG Spring Cleaning Contest And National Survey Results: Earlier this week, I announced the results from a national survey that I commissioned The Princeton Group to conduct to find out how much people know about and are using their miles. It turns out that 73% of Americans who have frequent flyer miles don’t know how many they have and 59% said they don’t know how frequent flyer programs work. To help remedy that, I’m running a contest in which I’m giving away six free one-year trial memberships to TripIt Pro, six-month memberships to AwardWallet Plus to new AwardWallet subscribers and 100 six-month AwardWallet Plus upgrades to existing members, plus 50 AwardWallet OneCard coupons. To win the one-year trial memberships to TripIt Pro, head over to the original post where you can submit a valid comment at the bottom the post. To win one of the six-month memberships to AwardWallet Plus for new AwardWallet subscribers, and one of the 50 OneCard coupons, go to my Facebook page and share the photo of me using my AwardWallet account.
Win 2 Free Roundtrip Tickets To Switzerland and Rail Passes with Johnny Jet: Johnny Jet is running a contest where you can win 2 round-trip tickets on SWISS to Switzerland (approx. value $3,000 each) and 2 First Class 8-day Swiss Rail Passes, which includes free entry to over 400 museums! Enter by midnight on Sunday April 14th. A winner will be announced on the 15th, just in time to visit for the festival of Sechseläuten.
Starwood’s Hear the Music Promotion: Starwood is running a promotion called Hear the Music in which SPG members can win Ticketmaster cash codes or even the grand prize of an all-expense-paid trip. Here’s how it works: SPG members will earn a $50 Ticketmaster Cash code for every three nights they stay between April 5 – May 5, 2013. There is no limit to the number of codes that may be earned this way. Next, SPG members can get a $10 Ticketmaster Cash code for one hotel check-in on Foursquare between April 5 and May 5. You must first link your SPG and Foursquare accounts. Lastly on Instagram, each Thursday through May 2, tag your favorite “livin’-the-spglife” photo with #spglife and #tbt for your chance to attend a choice of concerts including the hotel and airfare. SPG members may also redeem as little as 10,000 Starpoints for concerts at several SPG hotels. Some of these include Sara Bareilles, OneRepublic, Gavin Degraw and Imagine Dragons to name a few.
Changes to Hyatt Diamond Amenities Internationally: Hyatt announced some changes to their Hyatt Diamond amenities when traveling internationally on Milepoint earlier this week. They are as follows: At Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Hyatt Regency and Andaz locations outside the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, Diamond members now have a choice of welcome amenity. Diamond members can choose either a food and beverage amenity (locally inspired amenity at Andaz hotels) or 1,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points. Previously, there was no option to choose the bonus points. There are no changes to the Diamond amenity in the U.S., Canada or the Caribbean which continues to be a food and beverage welcome amenity or 1,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points at full service hotels or a choice of 500 bonus points or in-hotel selection at select service properties.
Join JetBlue’s TrueBlue and Earn 7,500 Bonus Miles on Next Flight: Jetblue is running a promotion for new TrueBlue members now through June 19th. New members who sign up for TrueBlue will earn 7,500 bonus points when they join, register for this offer, and book and fly a roundtrip JetBlue flight by June 19, 2013. Allow 4-6 weeks after the promotion period ends for points to be posted to your TrueBlue account.
Marriott Announces Iberia as Newest Airline Partner: Marriott Rewards earlier this week announced their newest partnership with Iberia Plus where Marriott Rewards members can now earn Avios for stays. Marriott Rewards members who designate Iberia Plus Avios as their earning preference will receive two Avios per US$1 spent at Marriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, Marriott Vacation Club, Autograph Collection Hotels, EDITION (room rate only), Ritz-Carlton (room rate only), and Gaylord Hotels (room rate only). At all other brands Marriott Rewards members who designate Avios as their earning preference will receive one Avios per US$1 spent (room rate only). In addition, Marriott Rewards members can convert their Marriott Rewards points into Avios at the following exchange rates at either 10,000 points = 2,000 Avios; 20,000 points = 5,000 Avios; 30,000 points = 10,000 Avios; 70,000 points = 25,000 Avios; or 125,000 points = 50,000 Avios. Unlike SPG Crossover Rewards in which you earn both hotel points and airline miles, if you want to earn Avios, you would be forgoing any Marriott points.
