Although yesterday it looked like the current best US Airways credit card offer, for the Chairman’s Preferred version of the card, expired yesterday, per this FlyerTalk thread, the Chairman’s Preferred version of the card might still be around and available for applications at this link Update: It looks like there is no application submit button on the site at this time. Update: The current best offer on the card is for 35,000 miles after first purchase and 10,000 miles on each subsequent account anniversary and first year’s $89 annual fee waived.

Is the 60,000-mile offer still available? Looks like it from this link!

Is the 60,000-mile offer still available? Looks like it from this link!

As a reminder, here are the key details:

  • Earn up to 60,000 bonus miles – 40,000 after first purchase, 10,000 after first year and 10,000 each subsequent account anniversary, and up to 10,000 miles when making a balance transfer within 90 days of account opening (you earn 1 mile per $1 transferred).
  • Earn up to 10,000 miles toward Preferred status when spending $25,000 within a calendar year
  • Exclusive: Redeem flights for 5,000 fewer miles.
  • Enjoy 2 miles per $1 on US Airways purchases, earn 1 mile per $1 spent everywhere else.
  • Two roundtrip companion tickets each year
  • Preferred check in, Zone 2 priority boarding on every flight.
  • One complimentary US Airways Club day pass every year.
  • Discount on US Airways Club membership
  • $89 annual fee waived the first year.

You’ll note on the application page that the bonus offer is not explicitly stated, but when you click on the terms & conditions, you’ll see these three terms:

“Premier World MasterCard: $89 (waived for the first year).

Bonus Dividend Miles: Forty thousand (40,000) bonus miles will be awarded in the first billing cycle in which you have made a purchase or balance transfer (that is not later returned or rescinded).  There is a fee for Balance Transfers.

Anniversary Bonus Miles: Beginning with the first anniversary of Account opening and every anniversary thereafter, Cardmembers will be awarded 10,000 Anniversary Miles. Anniversary miles will be reflected on the billing statement following payment of your Annual Fee, if applicable.”

All of which lead me to believe that this is still the same offer, so if you were considering getting this card but didn’t manage to do so before the offer was pulled yesterday, you might have one last chance to do so.

Two words of caution, though. As I said, on the application page itself, the offer terms aren’t stated, so be sure to save the terms & conditions and screenshot them or have some kind of proof of the offer you are applying for. Second, you’ll notice that down at the bottom of the application page it says: We apologize for the inconvenience, but our website is experiencing technical issues. Please contact us at 1-866-419-6437 or try again later.”

I'm not sure your application will work because of this error message.

I’m not sure your application will work because of this error message.

So I’m not sure if your applications will go through, but it might be worth a shot. Has anyone successfully applied for the Chairman’s Preferred card offer since the public offer was pulled yesterday? If so, please share you experience below!

The current offer is 40,000 bonus miles with first purchase and up to 10,000 bonus miles for a balance transfer within 90 days and an annual fee of $89 that is not waived, so if you do get the Chairman Preferred card, you’re getting more miles and saving money.

However, if you want to play it safe, there is also an offer out there for 35,000 bonus miles with the first year’s annual fee waived and 10,000 anniversary miles each year and up to 10,000 more bonus miles for a balance transfer within 90 days. Again, the application landing page doesn’t explicitly state the offer, but if you click on the terms & conditions, you’ll find the following:

“Premier World MasterCard: $89 (waived for the first year).

Bonus Dividend Miles: Thirty five thousand (35,000) bonus miles will be awarded in the first billing cycle in which you have made a purchase or balance transfer (that is not later returned or rescinded).

The landing page for this application doesn't explicitly state the mileage.

The landing page for this application doesn’t explicitly state the mileage.

Though the bonus on this one is lower, it could still be a better deal than the verified public offer since the annual fee is waived and you get 10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary (assuming this card continues after the official merger of the airlines).

So if you’re a bit of a risk-taker, you can consider applying for the first offer, which might be a residual Chairman’s Preferred version of the card, but if you’re just looking to bank a few more miles with no hassle and a verified offer without paying an annual fee, the 35,000 one might be for you.

Theres nowhere where you can hit continue after completing all fields…

At the bottom it says “our website is experiencing technical issues” so I’m thinking it’s still dead.

I just tried the 35k offer to no avail. I clicked the “Apply” button and was sent to the same error message. When I called the number they said they could only offer what was in their system, which was the 30k with the $89/year and a 10k with no annual fee. Shoulda gotten on it when I had the chance a few days ago…

  • Jrey

This is what it says on the first link:

“We apologize for the inconvenience, but our website is experiencing technical issues.

Please contact us at 1-866-419-6437 or try again later.”

  • Price Vetter

Tried both the 35k and 40k deals neither actually submits an application. Some on Flyer Talk are saying they’ve had success with the 35k deal though.

  • Adam

Heeey! Just got approved with this link: https://www.barclaycardus.com/app/japply/WebAppGate.jsp?prodidreq=CCMWC47830

From the FlyerTalk thread. Apparently it wasn’t working for some other folks, but after failing at the two 35k offers, I tried this one. Got the pending, wait 10 days message, but when I checked online I got it. Hopefully they stay true to the terms and conditions…

  • JakePB

Does anyone know of a Barclays’ reconsideration line? I applied online for the 40k offer and got pending. The online resource for checking approval status doesn’t have news for me yet.

  • Price Vetter

Pretty sure if the online app checker doesn’t recognize your information then you haven’t “applied”.

  • JakePB

Thanks – believe it or not, I’ve gotten mixed reports on that as well…

  • Price Vetter

The link below provides a 35k mile card with the same T&C as the 40k card.

  • Price Vetter

Yea, it’s a confusing situation. My post above lists the same card except it’s a 35k offer. I got approved automatically.

I filled out the application for the no fee 35.000 mile US card (and saw the terms you mentioned in the main post, took screen shot of those & saved). Submitted application and it said I would have to wait for approval…and that I could check the application status web page for them, which I did. But then and for the last 4 hours all I ever see is this message”CHECK APPLICATION STATUS
We’re sorry, no applications received in the last 90 days match the information entered. Please verify your Last Name, Last 4 digits of Social Security Number, Zip Code and Email Address as entered at the time of application and try again or contact customer service at 1-877-523-0478.” but of course I did fill out and submit and application and have screen shots. So did they get it or not? Will I hear back from them or not? Should I call this # they give? Wait? Try again?

  • Price Vetter

Try the link I posted below. That one worked for me.

  • tassojunior

This afternoon I used the 35/40 trick to open the old 40K application. I could not locate it on the status link and the reconsideration agent could find no application for me.

An hour later I got an email saying I was approved with a $9300 limit. (I already have an open US card 6 months old).

Check the FT thread- the 35/40 trick is there.

I suspect US going to Citi was a part of the merger deal and Barclay’s days with the card are very few.

  • http://twitter.com/Fearthebeard456 Ed Carney

I assume the merger will finish in a year. So are we really to believe that we will get the 10 K anniversary miles? If not, essentially, this is a 40k offer only.

  • Price Vetter

It’s part of the T&C regardless of when the merger finalizes.

  • http://twitter.com/Fearthebeard456 Ed Carney

Unless they cancel the card…Which they will if there is no more US Air right….

  • tassojunior

Part of the merger agreement is certainly that Citi will get the US card a.s.a.p. When Air Tran merged with Southwest, the AirTran card left Barclays for Chase very quickly. Citi is critical financing for AA.

No way will the US card be at Barclays in a year.

I still don’t know what to do….it’s the next day and Barclay web site still says it doesn’t have a record of the application which I completely filled out and submitted. Does anyone here see and reply to questions? I filled out the application for the no fee 35.000 mile US card (and saw the terms you mentioned in the main post, took screen shot of those & saved). Submitted application and it said I would have to wait for approval…and that I could check the application status web page for them, which I did. So did they get it or not? Will I hear back from them or not? Should I call this # they give? Wait? Try again?

  • tassojunior

Same thing happened to me when I did the 35-then-40 app trick. I thought it was just that. But later I got an email approval- even tho the phone agent assured me I had no app in.

I think Barclay’s just had a TI glitch that hid open apps.
