The major travel news story this week was the merger of US Airways and American Airlines, which was officially announced on Thursday. I’ve been covering various aspects of the merger as details emerged, and discussed topics including:

Official American Airlines US Airways Merger Announcement and What It Means For Consumers: This post covers the official announcement on Thursday, including facts and specifics on the airlines’ route maps, their fleet, plans to join Oneworld, and what flyers can expect.

American and US Airways Merger Announced

American and US Airways Merger was announced this week – and I was discussing it everywhere!

American and US Airways Board Approve Merger and The Potential Winners and Losers: This post covers the potential perils and pitfalls of a merger and the changes each airline will undergo as a result, as well as the effects on their flyers.

What a Potential US Airways/American Merger Might Mean for Frequent Flyers: This post was from last week when speculation was really heating up about a potential merger taking place soon. Take a look at my predictions about what would actually happen when the merger was announced.

How Will The US Airways American Merger Affect Million Miler Lifetime Status?: Although there aren’t too many million (or multi-million) milers out there, those that are are (rightfully!) concerned about what will happen to their benefits after the merger goes through. Read my thoughts on what you can expect and why it matters in this post.

US Airways Chairman Preferred Credit Card Deal Expired?: Unfortunately one of the best airline credit card offers of the moment – up to 60,000 miles for the Chairman’s Preferred US Airways Premier World Mastercard – looked like it expired the morning of the merger, but it might actually still exist, though applying for it means taking your chances. Read about why this card is such a good deal in this post: Best Offer For US Airways Mastercard.

Is the 60,000-mile offer still available? Looks like it from this link!

Read my posts on it to see why you should get this card if the offer is still available.

Maximize Monday: Maximizing A Potential American Airlines US Airways Merger: This post is all about the different ways that you can make the most of the merger, from getting the right credit cards to making sure you’re at the tip-top elite status you can achieve.

How to Prepare For a US Airways AA Merger: This is a Sunday Reader Question from back in September when people were just starting to get serious about a merger and the steps they would need to take if one actually happened. Read my predictions and advice from back then since it’s all still relevant now that a merger has actually been announced!

    Brian,

I saw you on NBC in Philly. Nice quotes but I must add that you looked very tired.

  • jim

wow, you on big tv network.

i hope our 40k us airways miles become AA miles soon and AA fix the online award reservation tool. It sucks to having to look somewhere else for AA one world award flight cos AA.com shows only few partner airlines

I filled out the application for the no fee 35.000 mile US Barclay card (and saw the terms you mentioned in the main post, took screen shot of those & saved). Submitted application and it said I would have to wait for approval…and that I could check the application status web page for them, which I did. But then and for the last day+ all I ever see is this message”CHECK APPLICATION STATUS
We’re sorry, no applications received in the last 90 days match the information entered. Please verify your Last Name, Last 4 digits of Social Security Number, Zip Code and Email Address as entered at the time of application and try again or contact customer service at 1-877-523-0478.” but of course I did fill out and submit and application and have screen shots. So did they get it or not? Will I hear back from them or not? Should I call this # they give? Wait? Try again?

Well I am about to hit a big birthday in a couple weeks, so I guess my advanced age is catching up with me ;-)

  • thepointsguy

Yea- even though AA.com doesn’t show all partners, it’s much better than us airways.com which shows no partners

I didn’t see you on tv, but you were on NPR in Columbus, OH. I’m moving to the UK in August and your blog has been extremely helpful as I try and accrue points to travel around Europe with my wife while I am in Grad School.

When are you going to start recapping recaps?

  • RakSiam

Saw you on BBC World last week too.

can you please tell the AA folks to fix their award reservation system? I don’t want some kind of third party paid websites to look for one world partner flights, also not phone reservations.

I like united cos it allows you to book so many of its partner flights online
    thanks
