Update: The public offer for the Chairman’s Preferred US Airways Dividend Miles Premier World Mastercard has expired, but you still might be able to apply for it – check out this post for more information on it as well as a version of the card that comes with 35,000 bonus miles and the first year’s annual fee waived. The current offer is 30,000 bonus miles with first purchase and up to 10,000 bonus miles for a balance transfer within 90 days and an annual fee of $89 that is not waived.

I’ve gotten a lot of emails and comments about the US Airways Dividend Miles Premier World Mastercard lately, which is the best US Airways Mastercard offer out there.

As a reminder, here are the key details:

  • Earn up to 60,000 bonus miles – 40,000 after first purchase, 10,000 after first year and 10,000 each subsequent account anniversary, and 10,000 miles when making a balance transfer within 90 days of account opening (you earn 1 mile per $1 transferred).
  • Earn up to 10,000 miles toward Preferred status when spending $25,000 within a calendar year
  • Exclusive: Redeem flights for 5,000 fewer miles.
  • Enjoy 2 miles per $1 on US Airways purchases, earn 1 mile per $1 spent everywhere else.
  • Two roundtrip companion tickets each year
  • Preferred check in, Zone 2 priority boarding on every flight.
  • One complimentary US Airways Club day pass every year.
  • Discount on US Airways Club membership
  • $89 annual fee waived the first year.

US Airways Chairmans MC

One of the main points of concern most people seem to have is that the offer states it is exclusively for Chairman’s Preferred elite members only, but there are reports all over the internet that people without US Airways Preferred status have been able to get the offer, so it could be worth a shot.

As far as Barclay’s credit cards go, this is a pretty solid deal, and it could be a great option for those of you who have maxed out your Amex, Chase and Citi applications for the moment. Plus, it’s a lot better than my own affiliate link offer for the card, which is just 30,000 bonus miles with first purchase and a potential of 10,000 more miles with a balance transfer, though I wouldn’t recommend doing that since balance transfers often carry fees.

The reason you might want to get this card now is that our sources tell us that a merger between American Airlines and US Airways might be announced as early as Monday, so this could be a good chance to get in on a bundle of US Airways Dividend Miles in the hopes that you’ll be able to combine them with your AAdvantage account once the two airlines and their frequent flyer programs eventually merge – though that’s probably a ways in the future.

While I don’t think the links or this offer will change anytime soon, and probably well after any merger would take place, this card and future US Airways credit card products might be taken over by Citi after the merger, so whether you’re thinking of getting in on this now or in the near future you might want to put this offer on your radar and keep an eye on it.

If you’ve gotten this card and the full bonus offer, please comment on this post with your experience and whether you were able to get it without being a Chairman’s Preferred member.

Everyone have a great weekend – keep warm and dry if you’re in the Northeast – and stay tuned for more developments in the US Airways/American merger.

Both my wife and I applied for this card Dec 28, 2012 using the link for the Chairman Preferred Members “Only.” Neither of has has ever flown US Airways let alone being a Chairman member. Points posted after first spend without a problem.

  • Mmt

I received a card with this name this week. But how do I know it is the one “for Chariman’s Preferred”? I am not chairman’s preferred. Used the link provided a week ago from one of the numerous bloggers. I had another card that looked similar last year. This one says Premier World. I don’t recall the labeling of the previous.

  • Alex Hickman

I got this card through a different link way back in October. I still got the points and offers that this one offered too. Wasn’t sure if it was because I was Silver at that time. But it’s a great card. I will be keeping this card for a bit actually :)

  • Stacey

I received the full bonus when I applied in Dec 2011 and received the 10k anniversary bonus without issue. My Mom applied using the same link last summer and received the full bonus. Neither of us are Chairmans Preferred.

  • Vijay Kumar Adhikari

I received the full bonus when I applied in Jan 2013. I am not a Chairmans Preferred.

  • Vijay Kumar Adhikari

By the way, points posted after the statement closed. I had charged a burger on it.

  • Anon

TPG puts in the right link and doesn’t even link the affiliate offer, while MV plugs his affiliate link shamelessly and doesn’t even mention the better offer. What is the world coming to? (and I mean that as a compliment)

  • Vimaury

I have received the 40k bonus three times on this card!

  • Momentforlife9

Im curious with the merger if you have 40k in miles if AA will be 40k too. This is a FREE ticket to AMS from ORD on AA off season for 89$.

  • Newbie

I got approved for the platinum not premier card. Any idea if this will impact my signup rewards or annual 10k miles deposit?

  • TravelBloggerBuzz

    Good post, nice job.

  • Franklin

How come nothing is mentioned about us airways changing the cost of award tickets without warning two nights ago? Increasing and getting rid of some of the great value redemptions?

  • LT

NOT a Chairman’s Preferred. Applied, instantly accepted in January 2013. Made one low amount grocery store purchase. points are already posted.

  • Swizard210

Does it work to apply for this card twice at one time using the 2 BM trick? Or is it just churnable in the sense that I can apply for it once, wait 3 months, and apply again etc.

  • Sam

It will not impact as long as you used this link and I just got the annual 10,000 on my platinum version. However, there are other links out there that do give less for the platinum version.

  • Sam

all the us airways cards are either premier world or platinum if you got approved for less than 5000 credit line.

Wish I qualified for these card deals…sigh. This one wasn’t as bad of a reject (guy on the phone actually told me to call back in a few months after having some other CC, only ones I can do are secured at this point).

  • Jemmy

Good deal. Sadly when I was going to sign up I found that residents of Iowa are not eligible..

  • Cbender49

I don’t have status with US Air and have gotten the 40k bonus for this card twice :) even managed to hang onto the 10k anniversary miles after canceling the card prior to the fee showing up on the first one.

  • Justin

Off peak for 8 months/year may disappear by the time the mileage programs are integrated. I don’t think people realize how long it will be til your US miles become AA miles redeemable on OW. Qatar may be in OW first…

  • bkoehler

Minor correction: “Two roundtrip companion tickets each year”
One Companion Certificate good for up to two additional companion tickets at $99 plus tax for an initial ticket over $250 before tax, blackout dates apply

aka As long as your ticket is over $250 before tax you can buy two additional tickets for $99 plus tax, as long as you’re not flying on blackout dates and have exactly the same itinerary.

I think the companion certificate is a great value, but alas it’s not as good as the “Two roundtrip companion tickets each year” makes it sound.

Yeah, it’s too bad I signed up using MVs link just last week :(

Bummed that this one is out there and the one I snagged didn’t waive the annual fee.

  • v1pe

I’ve heard you can churn Barclay’s US Airways cards more often than most…is that a true statement? If so, what’s the time limit?

  • Alohastephen

    I’ve gotten two myself.

  • Boudoggie

Can you also call on the phone and possibly get this deal if you are not a Chairman’s preferred member?

  • Cbender49

Same here. My applications were probably 10 months apart and the first card still active. They seemed pretty picky about inquiries when trying for a second.

  • Ackrach

You will know because the bonus will be 40,000 (the bonus for Chairman’s Preferred) vs. 30,000 for the regular offer.

  • Stratos

I applied for the Premier World card under the Chairman’s Preferred link and didn’t get approved at first. I called the reconsideration line and, while they were quite difficult about it, I finally got approved, but unfortunately, for the Platinum card. I was SUPER bummed, because from what I had read the Platinum card has a much smaller sign-up bonus (15k?), no anniversary miles and a $49 annual fee (not waived the first year).
HOWEVER: when my card arrived, the packet included all the info that is attached to the Premier World offer (i.e. $89 annual fee, waived the first year, 40k sign-up bonus and 10k anniversary miles). This really made my day.
So I did some digging, and it seems that there are FOUR versions of the US Airways card:
    1. Premier World with an $89 annual fee
    2. Platinum with an $89 annual fee (which is the one I got)
    3. World with a $49 annual fee
    4. Platinum with a $49 annual fee
The difference between the cards appears to be that the Platinum version simply has a higher APR than the Premier World and World cards (24.99% instead of 15.99%). However, in terms of sign-up bonuses, it IS possible to get 40k+10k (+10k if you are going to be doing a balance transfer, which is not a good deal in my opinion) under the Platinum card.

  • Austin

No status with US. Didn’t even have a Dividend Miles number when I applied and was instantly approved. Made a $10 purchase and miles have posted to my account.

  • Ciello

Last year I got this credit card under the same offer. I didn’t (and still don’t) have any elite status.
However, at the one year mark, I did not get the 10,000 bonus. I called and was told that per the T&C non-elites do not get the extra 10,000 every year. I argued for a while and they eventually gave me the 10,000. Hopefully this works for other people….

  • cute tamil

i recently applied for this. do they match the offer as Chase does?

  • Summitseeker

Applied, accepted, billed for $89 on first statement. Called in requesting
a reinstatement of the first year waiver. Offered half off credit. Hesitated.
Asked if I had misread the offer. Please hold….she came back on line and offered to
waive the entire $89 fee. I suggest a phone posture of polite, courteous, thankful and persistent. (i.e. don’t accept the first offer-half off)

  • dbeach7

I used this offer, no fuss, no muss. I also took advantage of an offer US sent me to get 15k bonus miles for spending $750 in each of three consecutive months.

  • Thomas

This is very re-assuring as I got platinum as well, and I do see the 40k posted already. Thanks!

  • v1pe

What’s the deal on the balance transfers? My offer had 10k for a balance transfer and 0% APR on all transfers for a number of months. Couldn’t I transfer a balance and pay it right away and incur no fee? Unless there’s a fee associated with balance transfers?

  • v1pe

Seems that there are a few different flavors of this card. For your second one, I assume you applied for a slightly different card? Since you mentioned that you hadn’t canceled your initial one….

  • v1pe

Did you cancel at 7-10 months and then re-apply? Or how did you do it?

  • Stratos

As per the T&C (, the transaction fees for a balance transfer is:
“Either $10 or 4% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater. (During the first fifteen billing cycles after account opening, either $10 or 3% of each transfer, whichever is greater).”
So say you transferred the $10,000 to get the full 10,000 miles, the fee would be 3% of that, i.e. $300. So yes, while there would be no APR on this balance for 15 months, you would pay a $300 fee to get the full 10k miles. Is it worth it? Not to me, but maybe it is to you…

Just applied for the card using the Chairman’s Preferred link. I do have a US Airways FF number, and at one time had silver status, but currently have no status. Application was accepted within a couple of minutes.

  • Dh34239

I just enrolled in the Dividend Miles program, applied for the card using the link and was approved

  • zadikim

I applied and was instantly approved, but how can i know if i was approved for the platinum card or the premier?

I just applied for my wife and she got instant approval with 3000 limit. Will this give 40000 miles or lower(30000)? Can anyone share their experience?

  • v1pe

Ah, thanks, I didn’t dig into the details of the offer, but I assumed that a balance transfer of any amount would net the 10k points offer. I figured if I transferred a few hundred dollars that the transfer fee would be worth the points gained.

I applied for this product in November 2012 and my offer was 25,000 bonus miles + $50 statement credit. My account had the $89 annual fee attached, but I was able to reverse that with a phone call to customer service. I wish I had known about this offer instead. I wrote about my experience at:

  • Tcaplus

The 5000 mile award discount is ONLY good on US metal! If you use other *A members exclusively or in combination with US, it does not apply. Waiving the award processing fee ($25-50) appear to also only apply to award travel solely on US Airway flights.

I was sold the premier world card while flying in early Feb. Nothing was said about an $89 annual fee, and after talking with 3 reps, it was not waived. It is the cost of all the miles and companion trips, I was told. I gave up an AA card a few years ago because miles were not redeemable on any flight I wanted to take
