Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:

Virgin’s redemption chart – with this promo, you’d need less than 60,000 miles for an Upper Class ticket.

American Express 35% Transfer Bonus to Virgin Atlantic: In case you missed this, we posted earlier this week about this new American Express transfer bonus. As a recap, now through December 29, 2012, American Express cardmembers who transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club will receive a 35% bonus. The bonus is hard-coded into the transfer page, so you don’t have to register or do anything special, just transfer miles as you normally would. Since Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles transfer to Hilton at a 2:1 ratio, this is a great way to make even more of those Amex points, which transfer to Hilton HHonors directly at a ratio of 1 Amex point to 1.5 HHonors points. With this promo, however, 1 Amex point = 1.35 Virgin miles = 2.7 HHonors points, 80% more than transferring directly from Amex.

US Airways 100% Buy Miles Bonus Extended Until December 7: Originally supposed to end yesterday on November 30, the 100% Buy Miles bonus on US Airways miles has been extended a week until December 7, 2012. The best value you can get is about 1.88 cents per mile, which can still be expensive if you’re buying 100,000 miles, but if you are looking to put those miles to use on high-value premium redemptions like business class to Europe, Asia or the South Pacific, you could wind up saving thousands of dollars. For more ideas on how to maximize this promo and whether it’s worth it, check out this post.

Receive a double upgrade with Enterprise on your next rental.

The upgraded car class will not appear on your reservation, but will be applied free of charge upon arrival if a car is available in the next two higher classes. Offer cannot be combined with other coupons, offers or discounted rates.

Hertz Rental Car Weekend Rates for Under $5: Hertz normally offers cheap weekend rentals starting at $14.99 per day on an economy or compact car when you pick-up from Thursday through Sunday at select participating airport or neighborhood locations using RQ code: XCT1. However, applying the coupon code 176396, you’ll save an additional $10 per day, up to $40 per rental, which brings the cost of each day to only $4.99. This deal is only valid through December 31, 2012. If you were thinking of a quick weekend getaway and need a car rental, this could be a great deal. (Hat Tip: View from the Wing)

After transferring rewards points from Amex to Virgin Atlantic, it took me a while to figure out how transfer (Exchange) miles from Virgin to Hilton Honors. The answer is it can only be done via phone. Call the Flying Club Help Desk at 800 365 9500. Hours : 08.30 – 23.00 seven days a week. I transferred 27,000 Amex Rewards Points to 36,450 Virgin Atlantic miles. I just called and they are facilitating the exchange of 35,000* points to 70,000 Hilton Honors points. That is two nights stays in nice Hilton and Embassy Suites properties that I frequent. Thank you Points Guy.

*The minimum number of points that can be exchanges is 10,000 and after that, in increments of 5,000 miles.

FYI – I just walked into a Chase branch today 12/3/12 and got an instant approval on the United MileagePlus Club card and the Annual Membership Fee is “$0 Intro fee for the first year. After that, $395″

So that would get you a free year in the United Club. :)

Me too – not to mention the United Club card also comes with priority boarding, free bag check, and no close-in reward booking fees (which is 1K+ only by status) – definitely the most economical way to get that access without big-time status.
