Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:
American Express 35% Transfer Bonus to Virgin Atlantic: In case you missed this, we posted earlier this week about this new American Express transfer bonus. As a recap, now through December 29, 2012, American Express cardmembers who transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club will receive a 35% bonus. The bonus is hard-coded into the transfer page, so you don’t have to register or do anything special, just transfer miles as you normally would. Since Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles transfer to Hilton at a 2:1 ratio, this is a great way to make even more of those Amex points, which transfer to Hilton HHonors directly at a ratio of 1 Amex point to 1.5 HHonors points. With this promo, however, 1 Amex point = 1.35 Virgin miles = 2.7 HHonors points, 80% more than transferring directly from Amex.
US Airways 100% Buy Miles Bonus Extended Until December 7: Originally supposed to end yesterday on November 30, the 100% Buy Miles bonus on US Airways miles has been extended a week until December 7, 2012. The best value you can get is about 1.88 cents per mile, which can still be expensive if you’re buying 100,000 miles, but if you are looking to put those miles to use on high-value premium redemptions like business class to Europe, Asia or the South Pacific, you could wind up saving thousands of dollars. Free Double Upgrade with Enterprise: Now through December 20, 2012, Enterprise is offering renters free double upgrades on their rental. This is valid on advance reservations made for an Economy through Intermediate size vehicle at standard daily or weekly rates at participating locations within North America. Participating locations are available by calling 1 800 rent-a-car. A 26-day maximum applies. Rental must begin on or after 11/26/2012 and end on or before 12/20/2012. The upgraded car class will not appear on your reservation, but will be applied free of charge upon arrival if a car is available in the next two higher classes. Offer cannot be combined with other coupons, offers or discounted rates.
2500 Bonus Best Western Points with Budget: Best Western Rewards members can now save up to 30% on rentals with Budget as well as earning 2,500 Best Western Rewards Points (1,000 base points per rental plus 1,500 bonus points). Delta Announces 2013 BusinessElite Wine Selections: Attention wine connoisseurs: Delta announced the selection of wines to be served on board its BusinessElite cabin in 2013. The new selections were chosen by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson to pair with Chef Michele Bernstein’s new menu and will be on board beginning in the spring. They include wines from Italy, Chile, Spain, France, California, Australia, Portugal and South Africa such as: Robert Mondavi Chardonnay, Champagne Jacquart Brut Mosaique, Estancia Meritage Red Merlot, Scarpetta Pinot Grigio, and Chateaux La Rame to name a few. You can also check out this video from Andrea Robinson about how which wines are chosen to be served on-board.
United Club Raising Membership Fees: Effective January 1, 2013, United Club annual membership rates will increase by $25 and membership-with-spouse rates will increase by up to $100. Additionally, the three-year membership options will be discontinued. Current three-year memberships will be honored through their existing membership period. With the price increases the new membership prices will range from $500 for a general member to $400 for a Premier 1K. If you are contemplating buying a United Club membership, consider purchasing a US Airways club membership instead as it is only $450 for general members and gives access to not only US Airways clubs but also all United Clubs, so you basically get more than double the lounges for less money. Hertz Rental Car Weekend Rates for Under $5: Hertz normally offers cheap weekend rentals starting at $14.99 per day on an economy or compact car when you pick-up from Thursday through Sunday at select participating airport or neighborhood locations using RQ code: XCT1. However, applying the coupon code 176396, you’ll save an additional $10 per day, up to $40 per rental, which brings the cost of each day to only $4.99. This deal is only valid through December 31, 2012. If you were thinking of a quick weekend getaway and need a car rental, this could be a great deal. (Hat Tip: View from the Wing)
